Coming soon to “crashed toys” – 2000 Lund Fisherman 1800.
One owner, well maintained, lots of up grades.
This is is what a deer hit at 65MPH does to a boat. Knocked the axle right out from under the trailer. After 4 or 5 violent fishtails, straps broke and launched the boat which proceeded to barrel roll down the highway eventually landing upside down in the ditch.

Ouch! I can only hope it happened on the way home from the lake rather than on the way to the lake. Looking for the silver lining…

Looking on the bright side… now you get to go buy and rig another boat just how you want it. I like that kinda stuff anyway…

Thankfully no one hurt – full size pick up which I somehow managed to keep on the road. (Certainly some divine intervention there) State Farm has been great! Luckily, in addition to the coverage on the boat, I had a rider that covered my gear – depreciated value but really helped take the sting out of it. 8 out of 12 rods in the boat were shattered along with a number of reels and misc. other stuff some of which just flew out and not found. My favorite rod of all time (a very old Fenwick given to me by a good friend years ago)survived unscathed even though a nearly new Shimano reel on it was crushed. I considered that a real blessing as it probaly was the one thing I couldn’t put a true value on nor could it be easily replaced.

Sorry to hear and see. Sounds like you’re lucky to walk away… thank God. Hopefully you are back on the water soon to ease the pain.

Bummer! As you said though luckily everything can be replaced. I hit my first deer on Sunday on the East side of Mille Lacs. I’m really glad I was not towing my boat after seeing this.

Wow, that just plain sucks. I sure hope your insurance pulls through and you get everything covered.

Glad to hear that you were ok and that nobody was hurt but sad to hear about the rig. Tough way to loose her

Hope everything goes well with the insurance and that you can get back on the water soon.

    Good luck

    Well Dad,that was 1 heck of a job driving…..
Not a lot of people out there today could have done it…

The divine intervention came when there no oncoming cars when it let loose….

    Glad everyone was OK

Yes Jeff, it WAS a blessing that no one got in the way of flying debris. Additionally, the closest vehicle behind us was an out of service ambulance the driver of which reacted very well. He saw the whole thing unfolding and braked while pulling into the center of the road – he had his lights flashing blocking traffic long before I ever got the truck stopped. Also, I’ll take this opportunity to air a pet peeve: Pulling trailers with too small a tow vehicle. My boat and trailer fully loaded weighed in at 3800# A full size half ton (Chevy in this case) was barely adequate to keep me on the road with the weight of the load swinging me around. Less than 15 minutes after crash, a boat nearly the size of mine went by being towed by a Jeep Liberty. Think about where that rig would have ended up in a situation like mine. In my opinion, there is no substitute for a vehicle of sufficient size (weight) for controlling that kind of a load. Even power is secondary to having enough weight to be able to control the load.

Ya, thanks a lot Brian. I’ll add that to the thousand comments I’ve had over the past 11 years regarding my “big tub”. It took a while but I did master the art of the ITS while sitting on my butt on my air ride – it’s all about boat control – can be done with any boat (even without a tiller. Lots of great memories with it. wish I had kept a count of how many fish came into that boat

I had a personal experience with this phenomenon when I went to pick up what i thought was to be an 18′ starcraft islander in indiana to drag it back to Mpls area.

What i found was actually a 23′ Islander, much more boat.

The trip back in prairie winds curled my little hairs. I really wish I’d taken my suburban, but had opted for my wife’s jeep, ‘to save the gas money as i won’t need the towing power’.

    Never again…

    That is a sad picture
You sure put on a trolling clinic with that rig last summer, I have nothing but faith, hope and confidence in you doing it in your next rig as well

Ya it was sad – almost as bad as losing a good dog – boat never did anything but go where I wanted to go. Time to move on and get ready for the next chapter in my pursuit of many more good trolling days…

1st of all that is terrible, DARN DEER!!!
I heard they were going to spray wolf urine along the highways to deter the deer from crossing…
    1. That would be alot of urine.
    2. Would it attract wolves to the roads?
    3. How would one go about collecting some… ha
They need to start doing something, ive hit more deer in vehichles than with my bow and arrow…
