Fishing Tournament Idea?? I Need Input

With this being a mostly Mississippi site this idea may be appropriate. I have often thought about starting up a fishing tourney that would be a multi fish tournament. My thought was that over a 1 or 2 day period you could have a 5-6 fish limit and only weigh 2 of any species. I would guess that you would have to structure it so that the species would be broken up in this manner: Walleye, Bass, Catfish, Pike, Rough (carp, sucker, sheep head, ect)

My thought is that this could be a great equalizer. Now I know that some of you don’t like to move out of the realm of some certain species, but I thought this could be really fun and competitive. Thoughts?? I would like to hear them.

    Thanks Haywood

Is this a tournament you would run, or something you would like to see FTR run. If it is over a certain number of boats you need a permit which you have to apply for early in the year.

I really don’t know… This is just a “thinking out loud deal” just wondering if there would be any interest in this type of format.

I know there would be many details to work through for any one or more persons who would run this. Thanks for the feedback, keep it coming!

I once fished a mult-species tournament on a lake. You could catch bass, walleye, or northern pike. The bass weight was multiplied by 2, the walleye weight by 1.5, and the northerns were their actual weight. It makes for a very interesting tournament with different strategies. I also have fished mult-species tournaments where after paying one entry fee you were eligible to place in different fish categories. Alot of ice fisherees are run this way. Hope this helps!

I don’t have any earth shaking suggestions for you, but would be interested in participating. Let us know if something sprouts out of this idea.

Over 15 boats you need a permit. If you ran a multi species tourney a good route is to have minimum size rquirements for each species, then have different categories worth more points. For example, Largemouth 13-15 inches 1 point, 16-18 2 points 18+ 3 points etc et c.
