I was wondering if anybody has had any luck with pool 12/13 for Northern or Musky? I know of quite a bit of back water that I would think would hold those fish, but am not real familiar with the population of those species in these pools. Any insight to be had??

No muskies on this part of the Mississippi, other than a very rare stray from someplace else. There are a fair number of northerns. Most small, but a few up to I suppose 10 pounds or so. You’re more than welcome to catch all those toothy critters you want and restock them in pickling jars.

If from cold water, I like pickled pike.

Well, I have had an ongoing chat with an old timer that claims two 50+ inch (and pics to prove it) northerns draped across a 50″ round table. He has told me the method to his madness, how, when, and why, and I am trying to muster up enough will to put the walleye fishing aside for a day or two and give it a shot. And I ain’t kidding about the pics, I have seen them and they were in fact across his table and the fish did come from pool 12 (confirmed by his son).

So I guess I was fishing for that extra push to make me do it. It is hard for me to think anything but eyes.

You can find some biggins around the Old pocket or mickelsons.

Not being familiar with pool 13 much, are you talking pool 12 Mickelsons (restaurant.) Cuz if so, that is in the neighborhood of the old timers stories.

Mickleson’s is just north of lock 13 in Fulton, Il. Its southern part of pool 13. I am not familiar with pool 12 at all. I would like to learn, but Gas has to come down first.

Definitely the place to go. Tie on a big thumping single gold colorado spinnerbait and use a leader. You’ll enjoy it!!!

That is good info…but the south end of pool 13 is a hard run for me. I am located in pool 12, just north of Bellevue. Anybody got any hot spots on pool 12??

Not sure about pool 12, but pool 13 is loaded with nice pike. Just go out and bass fish and you will find all the pike you ever want.

My buddy landed a 45″ pike last spring while bass fishing.

I had another buddy land a small muskie on pool 14 a few years ago. It was only like 24 inches or so.
