I’m trying to get in the habit of sharing reports and to show the middle pools some love on here.

Current was up considerably since I was last out Wednesday. The fish didn’t move very far. I’ve been targeting 15-20ft pulling dubuque rigs and three way cranks. Dubuque running around 0.3-0.5mph and threw away at 1.00mph. Wednesday it was natural colors that worked best – today it was anything chartreuse. Surface temp was around 38 but I’d expect that to come down a bit in the next few days.

All the talk about limits on here lately got me in the mood to pull out the knife.

Tom, any difference going upstream vs down with the rig. I’m just getting some confidence on P4 with the rig. most of my success was drifting with current.

    Tom or Eyeguy507,

I’m learning how to fish a Dubuque rig.

With the current we are seeing, how heavy of a bottom jig is needed to pull upstream?

Flow changes daily on the river in spring. I won’t be out for a couple weeks, but last spring I was using up to a 1 ounce. Whatever it takes to keep contact with bottom. I think usually 1/2 ounce for the dropper and 1/4 ounce for your trailer is a good starting point. Adjust accordingly.

Typically I am running 3/4 oz but with the spring current I’ll run up to 1 oz. I almost always run upstream. I follow the current seams with it. If there’s not much current then I’m ok running it faster. Just want enough weight to maintain bottom without being too far behind the boat and keep it 6-12″ off the bottom.
