Pool 4 White Bass Report?

Has there been any white bass activity yet around the Pepin area of pool 4? Planning on visiting middle of Sept and was wondering if anything is happening yet. The last few years have not been good for us for the white bass. Hopefully this year will be better. We did get into the ringtail perch a couple of years ago to make up for the lack of white bass.
    Thanks!

Have seen tons of minnows the last month or so near the surface out of Pepin and Stockholm with Whitey’s attacking the groups but the abundance of bait makes the action short lived. The surface temps were in the high 70’s then, not sure how this will change with the cooler temps of September. Have to think all that forage has to point towards some really good fishing in the future.

Thanks for the info, Paping. Hopefully the closer it gets to my trip, the better the white bass bite.

Ring Tail Perch? I’ve never heard that name used before.

    From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The yellow perch (Perca flavescens), commonly referred to as perch, is a freshwater perciform fish native to much of North America. The yellow perch was described in 1814 by Samuel Latham Mitchill from New York. Yellow perch are closely related, and morphologically similar to the European perch (Perca fluviatilis); however, the two are recognized as independent species based on anatomical and genetic differences. Other common names for yellow perch include American perch, coontail, lake perch, raccoon perch, ring-tail perch, ringed perch, and striped perch.

Learning something new each day! Thanks!

I guess no one fishes for White Bass up there anymore. Ha! Doesn’t seem like as many people use this forum as much as they did in the past.

Just got back from Pepin and didn’t catch a single white bass. There were n gulls diving anywhere. pulled cranks and switched to minnows. No luck on anything. Very disappointed in the fishing, nice days on the water but where did all of the fish go??

All the fish are full of the ridiculous amount of minnows this year….Pepin has been slow for most, don’t feel bad )

We fished for White Bass on Lake Pepin out of Pepin the week of Sept. 14. We caught 52 of them on Tuesday and then only caught another 32 in the next 5 days. We never found a shad in the bellies of any of them when we cleaned them even though they were chasing shad when we caught them. We were just lucky we found them on Tuesday. We caught the 52 in about an hour’s time at the start of the narrows toward Wabasha. They just happen to be schooled there about noon one day. Good fishing for an hour out of the entire week. Hoping for better fishing next year. White Bass fishing up there has been really bad the last 4 years. I don’t know what is going on. I talked with a commercial fisherman who told me there were plenty of shad in the lake, but the White Bass were no where near what they were a few years ago. Hell, maybe we fished them all out of there.
