Hello about to head down to redwing pool 4 and was wondering where do I go to see if the dam is open or closed. I remember seeing a website that would show that. Not sure what the term is but you know what I mean. Thank you in advance.

The rollers are down at this time.

The site that had roller info has been down all summer and I can’t get a response out of the COE as to when it will be back up.

    Good Luck!!

    Rollers Down = Closed Dam
    Rollers Up = Open Dam

    Right, BK?

Don’t let that make or break your trip. There will always be walleye to be had. It looks like it may be the last weekend of above freezing temps, capitalize on the warm weather and give it a try. I fish down there all winter, but the boat traffic really slows down once the weather comes in. It’s also the last weekend of the Waterfowl season in the south zone, which may slow boat traffic a bit on P4 as hunters want one last weekend of chasing birds.

    ^^ what he said!

Once fall hits the fishing is good or great, depending on the year until sometime around March when it really kicks in (and the fish move out of the lake into the river). Once the warm waters of late June come around the fish slip back down to the lake.

It is easier fishing with the rollers down into the water as there is less current, but as said above there are still plenty of fish to be caught outside to the main current.

The more I fish down there the more I learn and there are times (way too many) that I’ll see someone fishing an area and it just hits me in the head wondering why I didn’t try that spot and that time of year before.

So what I’m saying is I’m reinforcing the above comments. Get out there when you can, try different presentations until the fish tell you what they want. The dam position shouldn’t stop you from fishing, it should be an indicator of where you’re be fishing.

    Hope that make sense. waytogo

Thanks guys. I actually fish pool 4 year round also. I was just wondering about the dam position, cause of the current. First time that I had 4 people on the boat. 2 are beginners, and didn’t want to mess with lines tangling. We just ended up trolling on the st.croix instead. Got out about 1ish and left when it got dark. Fish are not as shallow as I thought they would be.
