This was my 61st excursion to the P-4 sacred waters from da U P )
Four experienced walleye nuts fished hard for three days… coldest mid April water temps I’ve ever seen, hampered by sub normal flow through the dam…No shad evident, and very few male walleye… We caught one milking male. It is our practice to release fish over 20″. We caught 13-14 walleye from 21-23″(obvious spawners) which were released…we each kept a few 18-20″ fish…all but one was a female, although they didnt show it… eggs were firm and still no distended bellies on them. Only 1 Sauger was caught…a 19 incher.
Most of our fish were caught on plastics or hair jigs in 12-17 fow. Good to see some fish trying to spawn but the cold temps will greatly impair egg development and success…This is happening allover the northern midwest… Gatenbein Lake still frozen over made thing even tougher. Good to see some old friends…We,ll be back in November!

The snow may help flow but Pool 4 desperately needs warmer water…. Use your sonar to find fish and use slow presentations… Good Luck!

Great to hear you came down south, but now you can take the U.P. weather back with ya.

Congrats on grinding through and getting into some. The bite on the pools south of 4 have been tough. Pools 10, 11, and 12 right now are terrible, nothing going on and real low flow. What was the water temp on pool 4 when you were up there?
