good idea John! i never thought to do this but i think i will now even tho i keep a spare nearby.
Looks like the battle fisherman at the dam did well today – some nice bags from the aim tournament . Was pretty grim for me down stream into the lake tonight . And windy – plenty of wind .

Yep, windows down. Also if something odd happens that you do not see when backing down, with the windows open you should be able to hear some one yelling a warning to you. Unless it is raining…..
I was there Friday. There was so much debris in the water at times I had to idle up the river the wood floating down was so thick there was no way to avoid hitting it. I think the dam must have opened wide open and everything that had collected at the dam was sent down river. The trip back down wasn’t nearly as bad.
Tough bite for me today . Debri was terrible . Good cranking temps but I’ll be dam if I could find much clean water .
Out Friday and battled the wind. Picked up a limit with a few bonus perch.
Few boats out today mostly shorts for me , 6-8 over 15 none over 18 . Nothing deeper than 10 foot for me .
Battled the wind on Saturday but kept 4 saugers 16”-17.5” trolling cranks. Most caught in less than 15’
I see the NWT is on P4 this Thursday. Does anyone know where they will be going out of? I assume it will be Colvill due to the size of the tournament.

Treasure Island is what I heard.

Is that on P3? I thought it said Red wing
I believe it is out of the casino, and yes that would be pool 3. I talked to a couple pros last weekend on 3. I think this could be a interesting tournament with the changing conditions.

Combine that with the 4 fish bags and I bet the top teams are going to be realllly close. My bet is the winning team will stay on 3.
They are running out of Treasure Island. Will be able to fish both Pool 3 and 4 from what I understand.

It will definitely be very close. It wouldn’t surprise me if 3 produces a win, but the guys pre fishing 4 were catching some good fish from what I heard. A couple guys mentioned finding the good unders might be the hardest part.
This rain is going to be a game changer and really show who the good sticks are. Anything noted this last weekend fishing won’t be relevant if places nearby got significant rainfall.
I think I’d have a good shot at the win if I was fishing. Also, a good chance it’s won not too far from the casino.
Well that’s not what I wanted to hear. Only option for fishing this week is Thursday. Was hoping for some peace down there. Guess it will be easy to figure out where guys think the fish are at least
Yeah not too worried about boat traffic, just don’t want to pull up at a launch and see 200 trailers in the lot. I only have fished P3 one or two times and remember its loaded with wingdams and thats about it? Not really my kind of fishing but will be interesting to see the results.
I’m guessing out of 117 boats, 80 or 90 spend their time fishing Pool 4.
I don’t follow tournament stuff much anymore, but is the NWT a catch, measure, release deal or an old school tournament?,

I did a little digging here. Part of pool 3 is considered MN inland waters so if an angler wants to fish that portion, they will need that specific license. A WI angling license is not valid in that portion of the pool.
The format is the 5 biggest walleye or sauger by weight per team, so there is a live weigh in. However, they do have an 8 ounce penalty for each dead fish so it’s obviously advantageous to keep them alive for release.
The next NWT event is in Green Bay in June.

I wouldnt worry about the ramp . Figure out launch time and weigh in and your golden, and if youre in the way anyway, pi$$ on em , you have just as much right as them.
In many years on Pool 4 I’ll say my run-ins or issues with tournament anglers are rare. I can think of maybe 2 in 20+ years. Often times I’ll just slide out of the way for a pass if they acknowledge I’m there, wish them luck, and they often volunteer up how they’re doing.
Some of the local guides are way more annoying than the tournament guys that come and leave. There are a few who have a reputation for being pricks and claiming things are “theirs” while working fish on well-known spots.
I agree with this. Some of the guides think they own a spot and will crowd you. You could be there for 2 hours, and they will troll right next to you and try to push you off the depth you are fishing.

If you want to fish 3 just don’t launch at the casino or sturgeon lake. All the landings at the top end of the pool will be good to go. There’s lots to fish on 3 besides the dams but don’t overlook them.
Like Bucky mentioned the pros have always been nice, and even willing to give tips, as long as you give them their space on a spot like you would with anyone else. I’ve had one bad experience with a pro in all my years fishing the river and a second pro fishing near me immediately told the other guy off. And yes I would about guarantee the vast majority of the anglers will be on 4 even if the bite on 3 happens to be good.
