More of a lurker on this site but I need some help from the local experts on Pool 4. My father wants to fish something different this spring and I let him choose. He likes his redwing boots so he chose pool 4. I have never been there besides watching the FLW weigh in quite a few years ago. If any of you could throw a bone to a North Dakotan, I’d really appreciate it.

I fish P4 a lot in the spring and my first thoughts are: What worked today, may not work tomorrow. Launch from Evert’s and ask what’s been working best bc they will have the best, most up to date info. Start at the dam, and work your way down stream.
January 9, 2017 at 3:34 pm #1663873Well, I’m a bit of a tackle freak so I usually run my boat to the brim with plano boxes. Thinking I’ll thin out the herd and bring specific baits. I usually run enough jigs to account for a separate person in regard to weight limits. Anything you guys can fill me in on for colors of crankbaits (shallow runners/smaller flicker shads or rap’s/deep divers). I fish the Missouri almost exclusively so I’m banking on having what I already need. What I don’t need is an excuse to run through scheels/cabelas/gander. That’s almost expected.
As far as colors go, I’m not worried as I’m a custom painter on the side, so I can typically match schemes or come up with something better.
January 9, 2017 at 3:52 pm #1663877When are you planning on coming. The river changes daily so what is said now really is a start at best.
4seasonsportInactiveRed Wing, MNPosts: 317January 9, 2017 at 4:30 pm #1663891I will chime in here a bit. What you consider spring is going to make a difference on the technique. To sum it up without getting to technical:
January through late March you can plan on some sort of a jig bite. It could be Jig and Plastics, Jig and Minnow or Hair Jigs. Outside of jigs don’t be afraid to fish 3 way rigs with rapalas or blade baits. Colors vary all over the board, My go to plastic is Chartreuse Pepper or something bright yet my favorite hair jigs are dark green and black.Honestly, the best option is to call us a week before you are coming and we can help narrow the items down for you. By the way, there is no reason to go to Scheels, Cabelas or Gander they are not going to carry the products we have for the river. Between Banks Four Seasons Sports in Red Wing and Everts Resort in Hager City, Wi we will have you covered.
P.S. We offer cabins right on the river for no more than a hotel room. Check us out at http://www.evertsfishingresort.com
Thank You, Chris

Dubuque rig
Three way rigging stick baits
Three way rigging bucktail flies
Dork rig
Miller rigI.e. jigs, hooks, cranks, 3-way swivels, dropper weights, plastics
You’d be pretty set there but why stop … Jigging raps, blade baits.
January 9, 2017 at 7:10 pm #1663943One handy forum tip is to look at last year’s and previous years reports for pool 4. Especially everts and pool 4 has quite a bit of info. YouTube p4 walleye. Lots to keep you occupied.
January 10, 2017 at 11:14 am #1664125Thank you guys. That’s more information than I had anticipated. I’m a fan of the teardrop jig b-fishn puts out and do-it molds has one in almost the exact same shape but it allows me to put a longer shank hook in it. I’ll sift through the archives and see what I can dig up.
@4seasons; we haven’t hammered out our lodging arrangements yet so we will keep you in mind.
Mind you, when I fish the Missouri, I’m targeting break lines, sandbars, and holes. I’m assuming much is the same for the Mississippi? I don’t like to fish the boats.
Once again, thank you again. I’ll restart the topic once we get closer to heading east.
