A friend and long time lurker of IDO was out on P4 last week.
Vertical fishing a Moxies he stuck a 29, 27 and a 24″ eye that were released and took home dinner of six 15-17″ eyes.

One of his best days on the old river.

On another note, I’m very happy to report that the Harbor Bar is now carrying everyone’s favorite Hamm’s beer displayed here by Harbor Bar’s server Kellie.

Check out the HUMP DAY specials at the Harbor and leave some Hamm’s for me. I think they only have a 30 pack in stock. )

Had some great luck with big Saugers on moxies in Jan and Feb – those are some great fish.

Question – is the Harbor Bar a family friendly joint? We have a 3 year old and it’s always great to have a spot to stop off and stretch the legs at. I assume it is but I also know it gets pretty crazy on a few weekends.

Personal opinion? I wouldn’t take my granddaughter in after 8 pm on weekend evenings. Mostly because she’s sleeping before then but you know what I’m talking about.

Reggie Fest is just down right busy. It’s not that it’s not safe, just busy and depending on your kids, might not be the best place to go.

The FW took our FGD in there last year on a Saturday while a band was playing and she said the servers were extremely friendly to her and gave her some tips on buying those tie dyed tee shirts.

If you see Eric Anderson ( @erick ) in there… I would be careful though.

This would most likely be a weekend afternoon kind of deal – boat/fish for a few hours in the morning, stop and take a break somewhere, then get a couple more hours in. Seems like this would be a decent stop for a beer and sandwich and let our daughter run around a bit…..a bathroom nearby is always a positive, too.

You will be stopping at the right spot.

A bit of warning though. If you order the chicken strips appetizer for your daughter, plan on eating more than half of them! One dinner is enough for two!

Only other place with boat access is the Mr. Sippi in the Wisconsin Back Channel.

Seems like a deal to me…..even better would be to let the FW’s babysit and we can drink Hamm’s and catch some fish!

BK, when you (and others) say vertical jigging, are you talking legitimate vertical jigging where they’re anchored/spotlocked? or vertical jigging as they drift the current?

For me it’s both….spot locked and vertical on current seams so I can get action on the bait. Or, slipping downstream and keeping the bait vertical.

slipping downstream and keeping the bait vertical.

I’m going to guess slipping but I’ll double check with Steve.

Aren’t they both legitimate vertical jigging?

I’ve always vertical jigged while slipping the current. Anchored would be more like horizontal jigging or at an angle.

I go vertical while locked on a spot….some of the best fish I have caught this spring have been holding completely vertical next to the boat.

I suppose doah I just always associate vertical jigging with being stationary, and “drift jigging/dragging” as slipping downstream with the current. I need to stop creating my own terminology……

    thanks for the input guys!

Doesn’t matter what you call it if it catches fish!

Matt, I think most places like that are fine for families with younger kids. I have had no issues taking kids/grandkids in for lunch, afternoon appetizers, or dinner at similar establishments. I think in fact most places such as that welcome families because it helps their reputation as being a restaurant rather than just a watering hole. But like BK says, best to avoid the later at night it gets.

Oh and nice fish by the “long time lurker of IDO”… whistling
