My goose field is not cut so I am headed out walleye fishing instead. Any advice on location to fish? Would I be better off fishing the river or in the lake? Any advice is much appreciated.

    Thanks!

This time of the year I always like to start at the head of the lake. I’d troll the can line and cast Point No Point.

Thanks James. Do you think this cool weather will fire them up or slow them down?

This cold snap is a good thing. Warm, sunny stretches in September and October often coincide with some of the toughest fishing you’ll see on pool 4. Higher water and cooler temps = good fishing.

Hit Pepin Sunday morning. Caught two nice walleyes trolling right away in the can line in the same spot. 30 minutes later there was 5 boats trolling the spot so we left for other parts of the lake with nothing but sheep head to show for our efforts.

Both walleyes came from a very specific bend (30 yard area). I debated about anchoring there and casting but thought that might be bad etiquette given the boat traffic all trolling. Given I was first in the area, is this acceptable fishing etiquette down there?

Anchoring up on a “spot on the spot” is a very common practice on the river. I’ve anchored up on the can line but ONLY when I’m the only one working the spot. So if you had dropped anchor before the other boats arrived nobody would have said a thing. But if you do it after five other boats start working the spot… you might get some frowny faces aimed in your general direction.
