I launched out of Red Wing Sunday. Figured it was a nice day so even if it was slow it’d be fun.

Which was a good idea – cuz it was slow.

Water was still pretty muddy, which surprises me. But oh well. No luck at all with live bait. Tried pulling cranks and caught 4 or 5 walleye, all short, and one channel cat. Mostly 9 to 12 FOW. No luck on shad color, but the brighter colors seemed best.

    Good luck fellas.

Thanks for the report. Did you make it down to the head of the lake?

Nope. Mostly from Red Wing toward the dam. In hindsight, should have tried down further.

Fished Saturday and Sunday on the middle and upper end of the lake. Saturday caught a couple decent Walleye, 18″ and 20″ and several sub 15″ with most being Saugers, near Hanson’s Harbor, Long Point, and Maiden Rock. Sunday fished the middle of the lake on the WI side and the upper end of the lake again. Caught around 40 Saugers with only 3 over 15″. Biggest was 18″. No fast and furious or much for size but both days were decent fishing.

Head of the Lake question for everybody:
At what point do you consider to be the start of the “Head of the Lake”?
Hok Si La, Long Point, Maiden Rock, Rush River, Point no Point, the can line, 5th cut…?
