Spent another wonderful day at the river on Saturday, a buddy and I had planned to take our 9 year olds with us. Woke up to rain and the forecast was calling for rain most of the day, so we decided to let them stay warm and dry!

Fishing was pretty good, no shortage of bites. Although I would say we only had 7 hook able takes, we landed 4 and had a very big sturgeon throw the hook when it came launching out of the water! Another was a strong take and I couldn’t believe that it didn’t hook up, when I reeled in to check my bait I noticed a minuscule scale on the tip of the circle hook. Check those points closely before casting.

Key for us was crawlers in combo with minnows or cut bait. My buddies first sturgeon was 45″ mine was a little 39″. The guesstimate on the one we lost but saw was 55″+

The amount of baitfish in the area is just unbelievable. Hoping to get down again next weekend.

We had a ton of gibbles too. It got to the point of moving because whatever it was that was nibbling wasn’t big enough to get the hook in it’s mouth.

I was thinking smaller sheepshead or even mudpuppies but never caught one to confirm.

Yeah, that’s exactly how it was! I was about ready to throw on a 3/0 hook to figure it out.
