If anyone is planning on hitting the river this weekend, I would advise to go early or late. AIM is holding their tourney out of Everts. It’s a Pool 3 & 4 tourney so the boats should be pretty much spread out after launch.

I’m not sure of the times though.

The river is projected to go up about 4 feet, so that should make things interesting. I imagine a few big bags yet, but it could make things tough for the most part.

Wimwuen isn’t high(er) water easier to fish then low(er) water?

You know I don’t fish for those things so I’m just asking.

It is once the water crests/stabilizes and begins to fall. Until then generally the fish are on the move non stop rather then staged up in areas and easy to target.

The good thing about the high water is that it concentrates fish, but as Erick said, as it’s going up it can be tough to put a pattern together. I’m guessing this is going to throw a wrench in a lot of preconceived plans.

The one big challenge is, prefishing is going to be tough as the water is rising, if you do find them one day, they may be pushed out of there the next. That being said, I always prefer a tough bite tournament over a slaughter fest. Hopefully 2 days is enough time for me to figure out high water pool 3 and 4 backwaters. I’m not counting on it, but it’s what I have to work with, and I’ll give it a hell of a shot. In a tourney like this, you just have to find where they are, and as the water goes up, find the protected areas in close proximity. Easier said than done, but that’s the plan.

The AIM tournament is out of Everts on Sunday, May 1st. Saturday will be business as usual and we will have plenty of room for anglers along with great bait. Willowcats, Creek Chubs, Leeches, Crawlers and delicious Fatheads will all be in stock.

How many boats 100? I’m sure everything will be just fine and better than most mornings in early spring when there’s a pile of yahoos out for the first time! These guys are professional and know what they’re doing. Chris and the guys down at everts now have things in order running smoothly. Heck the fyb had what 75+ boats and that went pretty darn good. Good luck to all the anglers it should be interesting with the water levels. I expect there will be some good numbers put up as well as some not so good. Lots of good sticks will be in this one and I’m sure they won’t disappoint.

Good ideal Brian, even as a camper there and only 100 yards or so from the ramps, I have to time it just right to get launched and out of the way on a busy weekend.

When a Walleye tourney is going on I sit back at my camper and let those guys have the river, but that just me and mainly because I fish the same spots as them and knows what it feels like to a boater next to me catch bigger fish than I was catching of just catching fish when I wasn’t !

There is plenty of time for me to have at the river with out them !

Last I heard it was 60 boats in the AIM tourney.

The point of my post was not tell people to stay home as some have come to the erroneous conclusion, but to avoid the busier launch and loading times.

Even if these guys were not professionals, the people that fish the river this time of year are very (maybe even the most) considerate of other anglers.

I plan on being out Sunday. Might even speed troll down stream but I’ll deny it if asked!!

I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about the record setting one with 75+ boats.

They have 79 boats as of the email last night for the AIM event. I can’t wait! Work has put a kink in my prefishing so we will be out tomorrow trying to figure things out for the tourny. We have a plan but assuming with the high water, it is going to change to plan B and C and probably the rest of the alphabet haha!

Everyone check out ProChatter tomorrow and especially Sunday as they’re giving us the go ahead to do video updates, so you guys should see a lot of updates on fishing and results during the weekend.

With the slowly rising water and temps in the mid 60’s for a high, I’m looking forward to fishing on Sunday as much as going to the Spam Museum on Saturday!

Good luck to all you guys fishing.. I fished this last year and it was a lot of fun. AIM did a really nice job setting up and seemed to be a good group of guys. Wish we were fishing it again this year.. Maybe next year

Buckeye, Thank you for the praise. We certainly have hit some bumps along the way but overall I think it has gone pretty well over there. Definitely a learning curve and I am sure we have not seen the best (worst) of it yet. Please stop in and introduce yourself next time you are down. Chris Winchester

You guys have done lots to improve and it’s really starting to look great. Chris, it was I who called you last Friday night relatively late to handle a problem. Everything was taken care of quickly and we thank you for that. Keep up the improvements and you will continue to see anglers year round down there.

So how did the boys do Sunday? They probably didn’t sleep well Saturday with the terrible bite. Wondering if anyone put together a nice bag?

Pretty brutal bite by the looks of it, but as BK likes to say someone is always on them. Top 6:

    Ernst & Weidenshammer 36.79
    Skarlis & Keney 23.61
    Wuensch & Schultz19.39
    Bleeker & Stayberg 18.6
    Block and Smoley 18.52
    Pfeiffer & Pfeiffer 13.33

This was off the AIM FB page, not sure when it will be on their site.

With first place having 7.2 pound average and
second place having a VERY respectable 5 pound average…

    Someone’s always on fish! LOL!

I was out for about 2.5 hours and brought in a 38 pound weight. whistling

And that was just the porta-potty…..much needed after a Spam day the day before.
