Pool 2 Weekend Report.

Our bite started out a little slow on friday evening but got better the next couple of days as we got the fish dialed in. Vertical jigging and dragging the edge of the main channel produced pretty well. Pulsars, Moxies, minnows, and blades all took fish. Colors where kinda all over the place. Seemed to me that the key was locating fish on the depth finder and keeping those baits just above them until one decided to feed. At time the bites was just a few a hour but at other times it was cast after cast. Plenty of 18 to 20″ walleyes and saugers hitting over the weekend with a few bigger fish mixed in. Nice fat 29″ took big fish for me yesterday.

Great report Mike…your summary was spot on with what we experienced on Saturday. Sure nice to take advantage of the nice weather too. Those saugers were sure colored up nice.

Here is a picture of our big fish on Saturday. A nice fat 26″er.

Nice fish Mike! I wasn’t able to make it out this weekend except for last night. We went out about 9pm-1pm. Pitching to the WDs was the only thing we did last night, same pattern an technique as in late fall. Out of the WDs we hit, some were holing fish and some not. The ones that were close/on top of the WDs with some hitting aggressively an others light bites. The slower the presentation and the longer the pause, the more strikes we got. They were not stacked up by any means, only a a few fish per WD. We ended up with 6 fish..all in the 18-23″ range. Fog was uber thick last night.

It was tough for us me to get to excited about the after dark bite with the way the day bite was going. We must of caught around 40 saturday afternoon before dark. Little slower on Sunday but guessing close to 30. Maybe we’ll be lucky enough to get back out again next weekend for one more round.

Fishing was by no means a “picnic” this weekend but I ground it out, fishing a little in the day and a little in the night. Location has definitely changed compared to where the fish were setting up a few weeks ago. I caught fish on Moxis and pulsars but once I tied on a Keitech swimbait it was game on. At slow speeds they have better action than any paddletail I’ve ever seen. I tricked 5 or 4 on a stickbait too. Every year I’ve been fishing P2 for eyes I’ve got at least one double digit and I thought this would be the day. I usually don’t weigh ’em unless it looks like they’ll touch 10, had two that were within ounces of but just a hair shy. Oh well, guess I can’t complain about 9 3/4 pounders. Shoulda thrown a banana peel in the river, then maybe I’d break that barrier. One thing I know, I really love the way they smack that hair jig. Just dipping my toes in the water but can’t wait to chuck that thing around some more!

Is there a lake or a river system that gives up thicker footballs than pool 2? I really don’t think so. Thanks for sharing the pix…RR

Enough to make me jealous, nice fish everyone! The ice bite slowed down over the warm spell and picked back up when the cold came in.If it keeps up like that the next warm spell I know where I will be.
