Pool 2 (Walleye and Smallmouth)

Hello I was wandering how I could catch walleye and smallmouth in pool two on the Mississippi River. Close to the ford dam and other access points around there. I fish on shore and only seem to catch Drum when I use a jig and a minnow. So where should I fish this time of year and what lures should I bring. I was there yesterday and caught pike and crappie, but other people on shore said they were catching smallmouth and walleye.

    – Thank you for your time

I would be throwing something aggressive like cranks or jerk baits. I’d also be looking for any kind of rocky shoreline with deep water nearby. Don’t be afraid to work the baits fast.

This time of year I’d be throwing jointed raps or swim baits like a 360gt. Work current seams and move them fast. Don’t be afraid to throw upstream.

We caught fish this weekend trolling fast downstream. Fish are pretty tight to shore so you can get them shore fishing.

Minnows aren’t a real go to for me in the warm water. When water cools in the fall I’d go back to jig and minnow or plastics.
