Check the Mississippi River General Discussion and Walleye forums, plenty of news from p2 over the last 5-10 days. Most guys seem to still be waiting for the big females to arrive; but on April 8th user “mark z” added:

Gentlemen, my guess is that many of the walleyes have spawned. We caught big females at the confluence in early Feb, and some smaller, but still respectable females by the dam 2 weeks ago. Out last Tuesday and caught 2 small males by the dam. Water temp was 49.2 degrees. For what it is worth, a web search told me northern latitude walleyes spawn at 44 – 48 degrees.

I guess I was looking for updates within the last day or 2. A lot can change in over a week and that’s when the last updates were.

A lot can change from one day to the next this time of year too, right? I tend to look at the info from the most recent few weeks’ worth of posts in conglomerate and try to identify patterns that way. Probably more useful than any one report, even if it’s only hours old.

At any rate — for area-specific reports I do think you’ll have better luck posting on any area forum as opposed to a species forum. The pool 2 reports have been hot & cold all spring. Seems like a lot of people getting skunked, myself included, a few guys doing OK, and a very small number of big fish finding boats. I certainly haven’t figured anything out this spring at all, but that’s just me.

There will definitely be plenty of fish in the upper section. I’d get out there if I were you. Good luck!

Was out there Friday and Saturday. Caught both walleye and smallmouth. Shore fished Friday at the damn and by boat Saturday. All the walleye were male still. Haven’t seen a female yet which is really strange. Haven’t heard many people catching female yet. Still a slower bite as well.
