Beautiful couple of days to be on the river, but couldn’t get any walleyes cooperate. Fished spots from Grey Cloud all the way to Harriet Island in the past two days. Trolled lots of cranks, lots of minnows, some hair, and some plastic. Fished WDs, sand, current seams, rip rap, wood.

It’s official, I have no clue what I’m doing out there bawling The sheep and kitties were biting on minnows and I found some spots that were holding lots of fish. Didn’t find any bait balls though, perhaps that was the problem.

Mighty river you win bow For now.

Water temp was 69-70 and water clarity has not improved since I was out last week.

Picked up a couple Saturday and lost a big one rite away about 10:30a.m and then nothing but a few smallies after that.Had to go to work but went back out about midnite and fished until 5a.m took me awhile but I found quite a few fish,no real big ones but I expect that will only improve. The amount of baitfish I saw running the shorelines in places was staggering.

Founds the same problem..got skunked out there on Saturday. Water visibility was low. I did find some baitfish, but could not get but one hit. I could see a few sitting tight to the bottom, but nothing up and active on the WDs.

I struggled yesterday but the other guy in the boat atleast showed me what a walleye looked like again. We did find one of the largest pods of bait I have ran across on the river.

Glad to hear that I’m not the only one who struggled this weekend! I got out for a few hours Sunday afternoon with a goal to learn some new spots on the southern stretch of P2. I found spots, just no fish on them.

Bring on the fall and cool weather!

I got a couple eyes and some smallies in a few hours walking around Hidden Falls on Saturday morning.

There was TONS of small minnows lining the shore.

That’s for sure on the reports. It’s been way to quiet here!

I did a lot of up north trips in June and July. When I got back my goal was to really learn some spots and patterns on pool 2. So I’ve been down there about once each week. I would’ve put more reports but they’d all sound the same. Like ssperch said, I’ve learned a lot of new spots. I’ve found myself many times thinking “oohh that’d be a good spot in the spring”. But haven’t been getting the good catches yet like I was early in the year.

September is typically the toughest time for me to put together a good bite out there. Seems like they are spread out and could be anywhere. Leading up to September I usually have good action on the wing dams, and then all of a sudden they are gone!

Like you guys where saying lots of bait in the water this time of year for the fish to chose from. Hitting prime feeding times like early morning and late evening can help find fish. Leaches, creek chubs or willow cats are good options to try. Hair jigs should get going as the water temps drop. I used to bulk up my jigs this time of year for pitching on the wingdams and hop them down the face and tips. Less drifting them, more thunk bottom pick up and move right back to the boat.

Got the sign up post for the Fall Hawg Haul up in the tournament forum last night. That is on Oct 3rd. Typically there is a decent bite going by then. Last year I was surprised by the half dozen or so 27″ plus fish caught during the contest.

@MikeW22 where can a guy find creek chubs around the metro area? Preferably East side…

Wish I could make the tourney however thats also my wedding day. Ceramony doesn’t start till 4ish, but I think I may get in trouble if I go fishing instead….

Don’t know on the east side of town. Vados gets them once and a while. Fish lake bait or hey 65 bait typically have them and good prices.

Vados is good. I was in last weekend and got their “river mix”. Awesome variety medium sized minnows, including creek chubs.

Thought I would give an evening bite a try two nights ago with the full moon and all….another skunk for me. Tried all my typical fall spots and nothing. From the previous week…the visibility improved about 3 inches and was now approximately 10-11″. Water temps were still pretty warm in the 68.7-69.5 range. Bring on the colder nights and cooler days!

Would think these cool nights this week should be dropping water temps. Cant seem to find current water temps on any of the river gauge site I look at.

I’ve been saying the same all year just never ventured to look elsewhere.

where can a guy expect to find walleyes hiding out this time of year? I was thinking of going down and trying my luck tomorrow. ive only fished the river a few times and generally have stuck to the dam, confluence, and wing dams. might go out pre-dawn till about noon and just see if anything is biting
