All P2 river rats know about the traditional walleye spawn sites N of the 494 bridge. Is there any significant level of walleye spawn activity south of the 494 bridge??

I’m sure most are near the confluence. But last year I stumbled upon a group of big females by accident fishing cats in some backwaters by spring lake.

Katmando, were these prespawn fish? Last year I seen postspawn fish showing back up in spring lake in the last week of april. When they get back down to the lake they are hungry and will eat cat bait. However I have never caught a true pre spawn fish down south in early/mid april and have tried. So you have my curiosity

I believe that 98 % of the fish head well north of 494. And most the fish go up the Minnesota to spawn. Once they spawn they do not waste their time getting back down river into their summer locations. Usually the 1st run of fish I catch are large post spawn females.. The males/smaller fish follow about a week behind them big girls.

Joe, this was on April 12th and they were dropping eggs all over the boat, so I’m gonna assume they were spawning. Or maybe they weren’t gonna make the trek that year and were gonna absorb those eggs? Not really sure. They were all females though, not one male.
