The weather for the next few days is really gonna put a bow on this thread for the year… who is gonna stay up and take the honors of starting the new one?
Someone could end this with a frozen ramp photo. I’m supposed to be working downtown st paul later in the week, maybe I’ll swing by and take a look at it. There is a slight warm up for next week but don’t think it’s going to be enough to get out again before the end of the year.
I was surprised to see the channel open this morning at about 10:30. Back on the 4th it had froze over. Looked like solid ice from the ramp to the channel.
Have been seeing what looks like safe ice right off Hubs Landing Marina by the Hastings bridge. Not sure how far out I would wanna go but does anyone think it would be worthwhile for walleye or panfish?
Made one last trip for the year out on pool 2 today. Eric, Chris, Chad and myself cut open the ramp two nights ago. Little work with the boat today and it was good to go. Wish fishing would of been a little better. Lots of areas had ice covering them. Did get a few but nothing of size. December 30th in a boat on the river I’ll take it. New year of fishing starts tomorrow.
Drove over to the dog park and looked at the river. Solid ice all the way up and down except for the Metro outlet and over the top of the first wingdam down stream from there. Really depressing to look at.
By metro outlet are you talking about what I have wondered to be a stormwater runoff below the Wabasha Ave bridge that comes out on the downtown side? If so, Is it safe to presume that there might be fish there?
Oohh gotcha, I know where you’re talking about. I saw that the other morning when I was out biking around looking for open water spots to potentially shore fish. Do you think fish stack up there?
