Don’t think you’ll have issues. That ramp is deep. 494 has been fine and it’s a shallow ramp. With a 16’ boat you’re golden.

Yeah it’s AOK. Was that you in the red lund with a Honda? Or the brown boat smoking a stoagie?

We did OK tonight. 7 fish in 3 hours, 6 were eyes. Largest just 17 though.

There is very little flow on the upper end.

Sorry, that was a misquote — intended for labdaddy1 since he was talking about being out last night.

Fished this AM out of Lilydale and caught a bunch of smaller walleyes, a pike, 3 catfish and snagged a big carp in the tail.

Saw several pros prefishing. Talked to one who was trolling the channel edge. He said he was doing pretty good but fishing one rod blows. 😂

Ramp no problem. Not much flow is right! Small walleye and smallies were biting. Mayfly hatch still happening.

My boat is a 16’ alumacraft lunker, gray/blue/red with 25hp merc tiller

The smallies should be fired up on the upper end right now. This is my favorite time of the year to troll shorelines and watch for smallies chasing bait. When they do, I try to have a rod rigged with a paddle tail and cast to them. Slipping the shorelines and casting to rocks and any structure usually produces, too.

Yeah Matt, you know it. Always fun with small-medium sized smallies up there. They don’t eat surface baits on the river, though, in case anyone planned on trying them… whistling

Fun to get out this morning and see the pros working over the pool trying to figure it out. Some very impressive boats out there. Very slow bite for us and heard the same from those we talked to. Even under these tough conditions someone is going to figure a bite out. Was cool to see a few guys running presentation I never fish.

We had to really grind yesterday to pick up a handful of fish. Over the last month or so the bite has gone from lights out to lights off.

I think a lot of the Head to Head were scratching their heads yesterday.

Maybe the walleyes are intimidated by all the big shiny boats!?

For us the trolling bite has been about the same since early June. Catching fish every 15-30 minutes with only about 1 out of every 4 or 5 having decent size. The only change I’ve really noticed is less species diversity. Catching 90% walleye/sauger instead of the mixed bag. Haven’t caught a cat or sheep or buffy in weeks.

Lots of good info on the H2H pre fishing shows on YouTube. Yep. Some guys are finding them, some are not. Some are learning about the trains blocking the ramp at 494.

Wish I would of taken Monday off instead of Friday to watch the guys fish. Didn’t realize it’s only going to be 2 guys fishing Friday.

Hey Mike, actually there will be 32 fishing on Monday and Tuesday and 8 on Wednesday thru Friday. The top 8 from the first 2 days are bracketed for the final 3 days. I’ll be in the boat with one of them on Monday and Tuesday and watching the other 3 days. Should be a fun event and very educational.

Agreed….you can find the fish but the size has diminished significantly in the last couple weeks.

We weighed (on a good digital scale) a few really healthy 17-18” fish yesterday. They didn’t break 2#. Means they will need fish in 20” range to weigh.

I think the bigger fish are feeding later now….since the guys fish earlier it’ll be interesting to see if they find big fish.

2 weeks ago I thought the bag sizes would be big. Not so sure now.

Good to hear there will be more than two boats to look for on Friday. Anyone else with the day off and want to go?

When current drops watch the upper water column loads with fish.
Fish suspended in the main channel and everywhere in between!
Tough time to find anything concentrated.
Only flow leaving L2 right now is through the lock and the generator. She’s SLOW!
Mud line at St Croix confluence is showing signs of the croix nearly backing up the sippi.

It’s kind of fun watching the pros struggle.

I’ve never watched H2H, or really any tourneys on TV. As the standings roll by on the ticker, what do the two numbers mean. For example: 1. Brett King 13-12 — what do 13 and 12 represent?

    13 lb – 12 oz

Thanks guys. So total bag weight. Is there a limit to the number of fish they can put toward that total bag?

My understanding is no limit on number of fish.

Hang in there Bret. I’m guessing he is on the upper pool somewhere.

They’ll probably get a camera with Brett tomorrow.

I was gonna go out on the river to see the pros fishing live… but I almost think its better watching on TV – its like being in ten boats at once!

Okada is putting on a show up shallow – are the pro’s pretty covert with their presentation being on film? Can’t really tell what is being used – not sure if that is on purpose?

I think that’s part of Okada’s game plan for sure. Marianne gambled big on Hog but it paid off.

    Okada is on fire.

On fire or lucky? Lucky is running that far midday and finding that spot still open. Skill is knowing to get a lure back in there fast as those fish can have very short bite windows. I find it hard to believe there wasn’t several boats working that area when he got down there.

For such a slow bite it was fun to follow along today.

There is a post day show on H2H Facebook and YouTube sites where they interview the top anglers of the day. Show starts at 4:00. Sometimes they will say how they’re fishing but probably will wait a few days since it is so close and such a poor bite.

I was wondering if he knew the fish were there from prefishing but didn’t want to burn them early or tip his hand. After not catching a fish earlier, he left his game plan. I think this format makes for some interesting strategy.
