Hidden falls is open and the current is pretty ok right now. I would bet watergate is also open if you want the easiest option with a protected launch.
River is dropping fast and current seems pretty manageable.

Jakob, awesome fish! Looks like it was spawned out?
Also, how heavy of a jig did you use?
New to this forum. Thanks to whoever set this up! I grew up in Cottage Grove and have great memories fishing the backwaters in Grey Cloud Island. I returned to the mighty river yesterday and had a tough go, but was able to catch a really nice 2.02lb White Bass and a decent Northern…sadly no ‘eyes. My Stepdad and I fished between Trappers Bay and the Airport. I would glady appreciate any tips as far as tackle or patterns to help better my luck next time out. I am hooked on the river again and looking to get out there on the regular….
Had a good day with numbers but not much size. A handful in the 20” range and a bunch of 12-14” fish. The couple of females were spawned out. The small males were pretty much everywhere on the Upper end of the pool. Saw a lot of shore fisherman doing well, too.
Jig and minnow and plastics worked today. Water temp was about 52 everywhere I fished. Worked cranks for a bit with no luck.
They should be setting up on summer spots pretty soon. Beautiful day to be out there.
Fished Monday afternoon/evening and caught one 19” walleye trolling a #5 Shad Rap. Also caught a pike and lost a fish by the boat that might have been a pike. Talked to a guy that was getting a few on a jig and minnow, including a 29” walleye. I’m forcing myself to learn how to fish plastics and didn’t bring any bait. Still learning!
We had a good night last night, lots of walleye, smallies, white bass and battled a 15lb carp snagged in the back for 10-15 minutes.
All on cranks, slower water areas, water temps really climbing, i think i got some sun burn!!!

I’m so excited for the crankbait bite!!!
Glad to hear you got on ’em. Nice work.
Shore fished right at hidden falls tonight. Bite was great and it was a beautiful evening soaking a few minnows.
A few people up and down shore also catching walleyes.
New to this forum! I have enjoyed following this chat for a while now – decided to make an account. Been fishing Pool 2 from shore near Minnehaha for the past few weeks with decent luck. Ended up catching this beauty a few days ago. Surprisingly had not spawned yet!

Hey Ben welcome to IDO bud!

Welcome Ben! Lots of knowledge in here. I fish that area from shore as well. I’ll make sure to say hi if I ever see you out there.
I crushed from shore again this evening. We had a picnic and soaked some more minnows. Caught 8 with a 22” spawned out female. Our 5 year old helped reel them in. This was her first time getting her own minnow, too.
Saw this, too. What do you think a Volvo sedan is rated to tow?
SPP Police Dept posted this just about an hour ago. Lions Levee is ready for use!

Haha not sure, but hopefully they have an aftermarket skid plate on the tongue of that trailer!
Good day out there. Caught fish early on jig and minnow but as it warmed the crankbait bite was really good. Both trolling and pitching on spots.
Saw @daveb out there crushing, too.
A lot of fish in the 14 to 16” range but a few over 20” including this big male. He was still milting which was odd.
Hey Matt, saw you out there today. Awesome looking rig you’ve got there.
Sadly, my gal kicked my butt!!! But we both did good. Walleye, smallies, northern, white bass and drum all biting today.
Lost something big at the confluence, dont care about not getting it in, I just hate not knowing what it was
Hey Matt, saw you out there today. Awesome looking rig you’ve got there.
Thanks!
What were you in? Say hey next time. Fun seeing friendly faces out there.

I was in the Reata across from the dog park. I waved at you as you were going back to the landing. I’ll swing by next time if I see you.
Ok, I know my dollar to fish ratio is better in my $3000 black Sylvan! You guys with your fancy boats and all.

Let’s be clear Dave – it’s my wife’s boat.
BTW, HdF was absolutely crazy when I loaded up. I know people are chomping at the bit to be outside but big groups all congregated, no masks, no distancing. It was not good.

What is it with you and fish bodily fluids?!?! I guess getting crapped on by a massive tarpon wasn’t so bad now…
Hopefully we can get up to ML soon Matt!

Now Dave, now you’re sounding like my wife. And, you’re probably right. I’m new to river fishing and still trying to figure it out.
That makes two of us! After 30 years of fishing out there, I am still trying to figure stuff out.
But don’t be afraid to ask what’s working, folks are pretty friendly here

I agree – flag me down. If I have info to share I don’t mind it at all. Truth is, the river doesn’t get much pressure so there is plenty of room to share. Heck, there were only a dozen boats from the confluence to the dam all day long. I spent more time staying out of the way of the shore fishermen!
Out yesterday from 1:30 – 4:30. Fish are hungry. Caught Walleye, Sauger, Sheepies, and Pike. Current seams in slower water with cranks. My buddy caught this old battled scarred pike in 6 fow.
We got out last week from 494. In general a slow night, but found a few fish.
I added a few of my SI photos as I had some time to play with the auto chart software. The first is the fish stacked up in the “dunes”. The whole place was completely loaded with them. We pulled a few from there, but not enough for what we saw. Any ideas what they are? The pic is hard to tell, but most were nosed in on the low spot of each cut in groups.
The second is the dunes from the recording zoomed out for those who don’t know what they look like.
The third pic is one that I only noticed looking at an old recording I finally loaded. This is about 100 yards out from the Ft Snelling MN river cut. Anyone have ideas or been out to see what it is? It looks interesting. I also added the car in-front of 494 for reference as they are both on the same scale.
It appears the the 494 landing car was attached first, so my order is off by one in the above post. The last pic is the one I didn’t know about and am interested if anyone else has pics.
Cranks were hot tonight. The biggun of the afternoon was 27″. Had a net mishap and had to boat flip this one.
