I checked out both Hidden Falls and Lilydale ramps today. Both have huge slabs of ice on them from the high water,( 18 inches thick at least). The ice shelf at Lilydale extends about 30 yards into the river. It will be awhile before they are usable, which is unfortunate, because the river is wide open.

These pictures were taken at 9:30 this morning. Somebody worked very hard to open up the left hand ramp, you can see the blocks of ice laying around and the salt on the ramp. It has re-frozen somewhat.

January 28, 2017 at 10:17 am #1669359Must have just missed you there. Thanks to who ever chopped er open!
January 28, 2017 at 11:53 am #1669369That was probably just a few minutes of work for old Rootski. Thanks for the pictures Steve.
January 30, 2017 at 8:53 am #1669730Got out for a few hours on sunday. River is wide open with very little ice drifting around. Do keep an eye out for what is out there as it is very thick. The bite was a little slow for us but managed to find a couple of walleyes. Just darn good to be in the boat in January.
February 2, 2017 at 9:29 am #1670627Yes as of yesterday. If it froze in again shouldn’t take much to break it open.
February 8, 2017 at 4:22 pm #1672457The guys that chopped the ramp open last weekend put a ski boat in to go skiing.
February 8, 2017 at 6:09 pm #1672478Yes!!! Thanks for the update. And a thanks to the mystery crew who did all that work.
February 8, 2017 at 6:19 pm #1672482It was the same water skiers that went out of everts in january. Axe, picks, shovel and a lot of determination went into that.
February 9, 2017 at 7:36 am #1672554So who is getting the boats out this weekend?
Lilydale was still froze up pretty good last weekend. Would guess a week of these warm temps moving in beating on it might open that up to. Unless someone wants to chop it open.
February 9, 2017 at 8:24 am #1672575I am ready to get out again. Mike, I am waiting for you to tell us the fish are biting!
February 9, 2017 at 8:55 am #1672587Those fish are too big for me Mike. I like drifting the airport and catching 15″ fish.
February 9, 2017 at 9:18 am #1672599I hope this sun gets rid of the skim ice by 3 pm! It was terrible last night! Possibly the worst I’ve had the boat in.
February 9, 2017 at 9:28 am #1672604Mike, I know we are fishing different pools, but if you don’t mind sharing; what depth and cranks were working for you? I’ve never long lined at slow speeds in winter but I do have plenty of cranks and plenty of time. Thanks
February 14, 2017 at 9:12 am #1673894Anyone get by Lillydale ramp this weekend?
Bite for us over the weekend was hit and miss. When we did get on some fish it didnt last for long. Still found a few nicer fish.

February 14, 2017 at 11:04 am #1673940I saw 3 boats fishing the confluence as I drove over the river on 35E. They could have launched at Hidden Falls though.
Any reports from up there? I hope to get out again Saturday morning!
February 14, 2017 at 11:42 am #1673964what’s you’re secret mike?
Pretty sure it involves going fishing… That’s where many people’s big fish plan falls short
Nice ones Mike
February 14, 2017 at 3:16 pm #1674051Yep. Lots of time on the water and being lucky to fish the right spot when the fish are using it.
February 14, 2017 at 3:21 pm #1674053Anyone been up to the dam to see if people are shore fishing yet? Unfortunately no boat in my arsenal so I’m relegated to shoreline duty…although it can be good if it’s timed right.
February 14, 2017 at 10:45 pm #1674145what’s you’re secret mike?
Pretty sure it also involves me showing him the spot two years ago. And then him showing it to everyone else.
matthewkoldenPosts: 348February 15, 2017 at 1:07 pm #1674315I’ve only ever launched at lilydale. Is hidden falls the landing north of there, closer to the Ford dam? I’m considering heading out on Sunday and want to get to the easiest ramp I can. Any suggestions?
