I fished pool 2 for about 6 years now and have been fortune enough to do really well during the spring run.

I basically fish downtown st. Paul to the ford dam. Due to lack of time I really haven’t explored much, and I would like to add some new spots to my arsenal.

My question is when the water gets high have any of you had success in the pigs eye, spring lake, grey cloud island stretch of the river.

I’ve just recently moved to St. Paul and already scouting some shore fishing haunts for the spring walleye run. A lot of guys fishing Pikes Island this weekend, not sure how accessible it is from shore however.

Anybody know of any decent topo maps of pool 2 that I could buy?

Not sure if you are asking if there are fish on the lower end now or just anytime the water gets high?

Generally, now until the end of spawn, the fish are going to be in the upper end as you have been fishing. There is/will be a major upriver push of fish. Are there stragelers that stay down river? Sure. But the majority of fish be in the upper end of pool 2 or up the Minnesota.

This is a good read on seasonal movements of walleye/sauger in pool 2.

Now, later in the year are there good bites during high water on the lower end? Absolutely! Some of the best fishing of the year will be during high water periods in the summer into late fall.

I am not aware of any. Keep in mind that the river is in constant flux. A good map today would probably worthless 5 years from now.
