Is the river ever going to settle down and clear up a little for you guys? More rain in the Brainerd area yesterday too.

Just a little over a week out now guys. Will be out a few times this weekend doing some scouting for the contest. River level gauges dont look to bad this morning after last nights rain. Not sure if they are completely adjusted yet but will keep an eye on it.

Mike, I’d recommend finding another weekend once the river has stabilized. More rain is coming. The forecast by next Thursday will be just about flood stage at level 9.4 and on an upward climb. Could be over flood stage by Saturday. I was planning on going out this weekend but don’t see any benefit for that. Looks like were pushing it to me to have it next weekend.

Im watching it Tim. Not real excited about a cancel or postpone. At this time think we will see what the weekend brings and go from there.

Anyone know at what level the island goes under water or Lions ramp gets closed? I never paid attention other that when that happened got excited. It usually meant fantastic fishing was on the horizon.

I would not get too worried yet.. The gauge in St Paul does not reflect the water that we see down by spring lake. If they show a 5 foot rise…. it is usually half of that down here. The Wild Card is the MN river valley.. If she goes way up it will make for some tough fishing. Dirty water. Hopefully it crest sooner than later to give you guys some kind of stable water. Either way if you have been on a wingdam bite you can toss that out the window )

The big concern I have is safety with the high water. Even if the river doesn’t crest at flood stage and Lion Levee “is open” there will be a lot of logs/trees/debris in the river. Imagine hitting a 3′ diameter floating log at 40 mph. The best case scenario is you lose your lower unit – I shutter to think what else could happen. Wearing your wrist safety cord and life jacket should be a must.

We should bring this topic up when we go over the rules before blast off. Especially to the anglers who aren’t as familiar with high water river hazards.

Was down to lions today. Water is up but still got a foot or two to go over the island. Pretty sure the ramp to the dock will be under water in the next day or two. Dont think I would count on using it without or more next weekend. We scoped out a could of tables and a grill near the parking lot for the get together.

At this point the contest is still a go for next weekend. Water will be high but the weather is looking fantastic. Unless we get a ton of rain this week I dont see any reason to cancel.

Here are some photos of Lions Levee ramp from yesterday. Bring some boots if you want to use the dock. Water is still predicted to raise a foot downtown so I think we should still be all right at Lions.

Contest is still a go for Saturday. Ill be down to Park Diner at 6am for breakfast if anyone wants to joins me. We get set up at the ramp for sign up by 7am. Take off is at 8 with a quick rules meeting before that.

Well I was going to bring brats but not sure with pizzas being delivered and I know drew is bringing a bunch of hot dogs. I will bring some tuna steaks to sear as long as we can get the grill really hot. Only takes 90 seconds a side. If you’re planning on coming feel free to post so we know how many people to feed.
