Slow weekend for us on Pool 2. Very slow. Still very good to get out. Did manage to pick up a few decent fish slow working crankbaits.

I’d call that a successful weekend!
Yeah, I’ll show you a slow weekend Mike! Those 3 beatuies are more than I’ve seen my last 2 times on p2 and once on the croix.
nhammInactiveRobbinsdalePosts: 7348November 20, 2017 at 9:13 am #1729226Some well fed fish right there Any lengths on those?
Great catches. Back went out on me early last week, gonna fish through you guys for the remainder of year. Keep em coming!

Right? Nicer fish than I have ever caught out there, but I’m also on the shore and don’t get to fish it that often.
Looks like you had fun, nice fish!
November 20, 2017 at 9:42 am #1729233Don’t sell yourself short on shore fishing. Lots of big fish on those shorelines. Find the spots, put a milk run together, fish them often. You can fish them just like we do from a boat moving spot to spot. If I wasn’t so far away I would have a milk run of spots from up the MN river to Prescott. For those trips when boat control is challenging hunkering down on shore would be great.
November 20, 2017 at 1:12 pm #1729295Biggest fish I’ve ever had on P2 came from shore fishing. During certain windows in the spring and fall it seems they’ll stack up tight to the shoreline. Brings some cranks, some plastics, and maybe jig and minnow and you’ll find fish.
November 20, 2017 at 9:16 pm #1729442Ben,
I’ve caught some big walleye between hidden falls and the dam on both sides of the river. Especially in the spring at the mouth of the creek.This…..once late March hits the shore fisherman get thick down there. Brave the cold weather and February and early March can be great. If you see a white Lund holler at me and I’ll bring you on the boat.
November 20, 2017 at 9:25 pm #1729444Thanks for the advice guys! Sounds like I just need to spend some more time down there learning the river.
November 20, 2017 at 9:26 pm #1729445Beyond “very slow” for Sharon and me tonight. We hit it hard for quite a while, hit some rock piles and wing dams pitching plastics and never got a single bump. Water temp was 33.8, light breezes from the south. It was beautiful out there but the fish were no-shows.

Thanks for the report Steve. I was curious if they were biting last night. Guess I didn’t miss much.

It was a fun night despite the lack of hungry fish, and the sunset was beautiful! Thanks Dad.

November 21, 2017 at 1:58 pm #1729643Makes up my mind about tomorrow….I was going to brave the cold but I’ll work a bit and then call it a long weekend.
nhammInactiveRobbinsdalePosts: 7348November 21, 2017 at 2:08 pm #1729649Sorry guys, had to, been holding onto that meme for awhile now.
That is a very cool sunset, love how winter just quiets everything on the water. It’s another level of relaxing you can’t get in summer months.

Har Har Har!
Maybe we’re just saying the fishing was slow so the area doesn’t get too crowded before it’s time to put the boats away.November 21, 2017 at 6:46 pm #1729710Sharon, your dad taught you well. It’s good to see you guys out after them. Fish or no fish.
November 22, 2017 at 9:52 am #1729818My daughters are in their mid teens now. Dont seem to have much time for fishing with dad. Sure hope that changes someday. Guess big walleyes are just not that cool to them. Must get that from wifes side of family.
My daughter who is late teens and in college would never fish with me when she was younger. Now she is with me every chance she gets.
November 22, 2017 at 9:59 am #1729819I hear you guys.. My girls are 6 and 9. I do get them out on the boat but ends up being beach day and a sheep head show down. I am still happy with that.
Here is a photo of one from two weekends ago.. Fishing has been a lot more work than years past in my opinion this fall. There was a good bite a few weeks ago but the night bite has been terrible. Not sure why.Attachments:

It goes in cycles for my kids. There are times when they’re interested in ANYTHING that dad is doing and there are times when they just wanna do their own thing. My 10-year-old son has been passing up fishing opportunities this fall which he’s never done before. I’ll keep inviting him every time and he’ll come back around, I’m sure.

It does cycle, and there’s a good chance they’ll love to spend time with you later in their lives.

There is hope yet for my oldest then.
November 22, 2017 at 11:23 am #1729844Sounds like I’m not the only one who’s struggled to catch fished on Pool 2 recently. I’ve concentrated my efforts mostly in the last hour or two of daylight and into the night because in past years during the fall/late fall it seems like that’s when the bite has been the best for me. It seems perhaps the water cooled pretty quickly from about 50 F to the upper 30s so maybe that’s changed their feeding patterns.
Anyone hear how Pool 4 has been going? Are they also seeing a slower late fall bite and night bite than typical? Maybe I should just go hunting instead of fishing over the long Thanksgivings weekend.
November 23, 2017 at 11:53 am #1730071P4 was good last weekend….not sure the rest of this week. Bite was early am and then afternoon as it warmed. Middle of the day it was slow.
November 26, 2017 at 8:01 am #1730452Thought last weekend was tough on pool 2. It got worse this weekend. Should of at least taken some sunset pictures. Weather forecast sure is looking up. Got my hopes up for some good fishing in December.

I hope a stuffed Santa will be with you on your bow when you try some December fishing Might bring you good luck too.
