Was camping this week and goofing around on 11. Fished for a few hours Tuesday without much to show. Caught a nice largemouth on the first cast and cursed the remainder of the day, I guess. The only fish we boated were on the first two casts, then nuttin for the next couple hours until we gave up and hit the beach instead.
There was an area downriver a few miles that looked like a real winner – riprap island shoreline right above where the Cassville slough rejoins the channel with lots of current crashing on it and a daymark at the head of the island. Rocks at the island point were 1-2 ft dropping into 8-13. Then erratic shoreline going downriver with lots of current breaks and little points jutting out. Fished down it twice throwing a crankbait and a jig with nothing to show for it. One of those things where you hit the end and can’t believe you didn’t pull a fish. In my mind I gave the smallies and walleyes of pool 11 the Happy Gilmore “This is your home, what the hell is wrong with you?” speech on the way back to the ramp.
