    Hi all,
I planned a late, end of season open water musky trip this coming weekend on a few of the lakes in Polk county, but, with this cold weather am I out of luck? Is it frozen over already?

Anyone in that area have some intel?

    Thanks
    Don

I do know Mallalieu in St. Croix county is iced over. This is a small shallow body of water that is generally the first to ice up. Smaller lakes in MN west of Superior, WI just iced over on Saturday morning (Nov 10th). Didn’t get a chance to see any bigger lakes in that area. The bigger lakes like Wapo, Bone or Balsam may still have open water although I have no intel. The weather was supposed to temper a bit mid week but drop again for the weekend. It wouldn’t surprise me if conditions could change daily, especially if temps dropped to 10 deg again with calm conditions.

I wouldn’t get your hopes up. I won’t be driving by Deer until Friday, but I think your odds of ice fishing will be a lot higher than your odds of fishing in a boat…..

I’m at the same latitude, and the water is pretty hard around here.

But there is a little bit of a warm front coming…..that with some wind could open some stuff back up.

Fished the Chippewa River last weekend and constantly had to clear the eyes as they were freezing closed and our reels were freezing up with wet line. Temps are expected to be in the mid 20’s with lows in the single digits, Muskie fishing will be tough. Trolling or soaking a sucker might be the only options if you can even get out.

Just pulled a turkey breast out off the smoker,so went down to the boat landing Deer Lake , she’s iced up with some snow on it. I am sure main lake is open. But Tipperary is locked in, sorry for the bad news. DK.
