I need a new shock for a 2007 500 atp. My brother rolled it and bent one of the shocks. Anyone got a good place to get parts for Polaris ATV’s?

I’ve used Dennis Kirk a few times and they are great and typically very competitive on pricing. They also have very fast shipping coming out of Rush City MN, and I believe you can pick directly up from them as well.
September 10, 2018 at 1:08 pm #1796694Lots of used parts on eBay. I got a used recoil rather than rebuilding the original and for less money.
Dare I ask how your brother managed to roll it?
Also, how did he manage to bend the shock without messing up the tower assembly as well? Lucky.

He’s an idiot He actually did it last fall and we didn’t notice the bent shock(assembly) until this weekend when doing maintenance on the machine. It’s had a vibration on the back left and we couldn’t figure out why. Not sure if I need the whole assembly or just the shock.

September 10, 2018 at 2:04 pm #1796722Uh oh. That shock looks like it’s bent forward, toward the front of the machine.
I’d take some measurements off of the frame to points on the A-arm and the top shock mount on the other side of the machine as datum points and try to determine if the damaged side A-arm or top mounting point is bent forward or twisted.
It is hard to see how he could have bent that shock forward to that degree without also bending the A-arm toward the front. hopefully it is just the shock, but it’s hard to see how he could have bent just that.

September 10, 2018 at 4:23 pm #1796770Grouse is on to something. I’ve seen it before and usually the rear of the LCA frame mount will be bent inwards or the shock tab on the LCA bends. The design of the rear suspension with the UCA in front of the shock leaves a few weak points on the arms. Bending frame tabs back and welding washers on to stiffen the area is tedious, but will fix the issue.
I would also look at your steering hoop on the frame. If the quad landed relatively hard on the bars, there is a chance the frame is slightly bent at the hoop. It can be pulled back straight, but will need to be reinforced to keep it from working its way back.
If the machine is a strict workhorse and not a trail queen, both of those issues may not be a big enough deal to address. If that’s the case, eBay for used parts or Rocky Mountain ATV for new are your best bets.
Hope this helps and by looking at the picture, I would stiffen the pre-load a little bit more on the shocks. It possibly could help out a little in situations like this in the future.
September 10, 2018 at 7:57 pm #1796823So I definitely cannot claim myself as any kind of shock expert, but looking at the picture it just looks like the spring is out of place. Can’t really see all directions around it but it certainly looks like the body and rod are in line with each other.

Yes this is usually just a work horse around the farm. No idea why my brother decided to take it on the gravel road at high speed. That’s the first time it left the farm. The handle bars were bent down, but we managed to pull them back up most of the way.
This machine is cursed. In the first year a guest at the farm ran it straight into a tree. Wasn’t pretty, so the vibration might be that or a combination of the 2 accidents.
I will look closer at the shock and the mount this weekend before I go throwing parts at it.
September 11, 2018 at 9:11 am #1796936I just used Power Sports Nation online for a used part. When you call, you get a real person and everyone I spoke with was great. Another option if you don’t want to go new and their stuff comes with a warranty.
September 14, 2018 at 8:03 pm #1797649I live in north branch so Dennis kirk is 8 miles away and always has everything needed. Or if I want used I do Ebay.
