Polaris ATV blade size?

I have a new 2022 Polaris 570 sportsman that just arrived at the dealership and is having my accessories installed. I can get a 52 inch Polaris blade or a 60 inch blade. The 52 is in stock, but the 60 is back ordered for 2 to 3 weeks. I don’t have an overly large driveway, my sidewalks are 48 inches wide, and ny enclosed trailer ramp opening is 64 inches wide. I was thinking about going with the 60 but I’m not wanting to tear up any grass on the edges of my sidewalk. From what I’m reading if you angle the 60 inch blade at the full 30° it measures just under 50 inches, which would be OK on my sidewalk I think.

Any recommendations on whether to go with the 52 or 60?

Not the 60. Go 52. The 60 puts so much extra stress on the machine especially in a heavy snow. I plow with my foreman and I run a 48 or 50 inch and it can still be hard on the machine. Atv plows suck either way. But I would not recommend a 60

I was thinking of adding a plow this winter also to the 4 wheeler. Now reconsidering. I would have to add winch and everything. Wheeler is 16 years old and works fine to tool around and pull the Otter Lodge. Don’t need to add chores that would shorten it’s ability to do what I purchased it for (ice fish).

Doug There’s no way I’d put a plow on a 16 year old machine that has not had issues. You’re just asking for them if that’s the case. Enjoy it the way you have been.

ATV plows can be great. To me, they’re meant for powdery snows under 6″ that you can deal with in a hurry and at a decent speed taking advantage of maneuverability. When you’re running an ATV hard trying to move banks or slushy snows you’re asking for issues.

I also agree that a 60″ blade is only going to help you on the light snowfalls. Anything more than that and it’s adding a lot of force to move compacted or heavier snow. Go with the smaller blade.

I had a 60″ moose plow on my sportsman until I upgraded to a SxS and had no issues with the 60″. Only thing I’d be worried about with a 52 would be your snow clearance width when the plow is fully angled. I’d measure your machine/tire width and see if you put the plow at an angle, if the plowed snow will be clearing your tires or not. I didn’t have a ton of extra clearance on my 60″, so I’d imagine it’s real tight with a 52.

I’ve seen SxS’s with a 60″ plow that made angle plowing miserable because the snow didn’t clear your tire width, so you were essentially plowing more snow into where your tires were going which significantly impacted traction. So with that said, I went with a 72″ on my SxS.

I have a 52” on my 06 grizzly. No issues and I’ve moved heavy snow with it in Manitoba. The grizzly and the foreman I had before easily handled plowing. A friend destroyed his Polaris plowing, so make sure your machine is up to it.
