Plowing with Sportsman 500 and Moose

    Hey guys!

I bought a used 2004 Sportsman 500 this summer to use for plowing, ice fishing, and trail riding. When the first big snow came in, I was all set to try my new plow. It was running through 16inches of snow, and I though that was the reason that I was not getting a good clear. On this last dusting we got (about 2 inches) I realized that I could not push any snow. Upon further review, I noticed that when I was sitting on the atv, the plow would raise about an inch and a half off the ground.

Has anyone else ran into this issue? How do you keep the plow on the ground to get a good clear.

This is a winch plow with the mount being in the middle of the frame, on the bottom.

    Any ideas/advice would be appreciated.

I had a 2004 with a Polaris plow. Mine would sit on the ground but would jump easily when I hit something. If.you push down on the plow will it sit on the ground? I would just add some weight to the blade.

I have the same setup…never had any issue with mine. You should be able to just let more cable out of the winch. Post some pics if you have them!!

It sounds like your plow is hanging up on something…by letting more cable out it should go all the way down. The pivot points are in the middle of the atv right??

Thanks for the replies guys, I will post pictures when I get home tonight.

This is not an issue with it hanging up, the winch is fully down, to the point of there being slack in the line.
