Plot in a swamp?

Up in extreme northern mn our land drops off into the “big bog”. There is a transition area between the high ground/heavy timber and the sponge that never dries that has always intrigued me from a food plot stand point. It is your typical swamp grass still, with very little but heavily stunted brush/cedars mixed. This area is solid enough to travel on with an ATV for mowing and planting purposes but my question is what, if anything of value to deer would grow here?

Dig into the soil and take a sample.

Likely it will be highly acidic, so the first task is to clear it and start adjusting pH.

As to what to grow, a good perennial clover blend like our Mega Clover Plus. Ph tolerant, high growing season production. In hungry country, your #1 issue will be over grazing. Nothing else will stand up to the pressure.

Thanks Grouse, good tips. Right now our problem is there are very few deer around, hoping to help attract & hold some in the area. Thanks!

    This X10!

Deer up north once they find a plot will destroy it. There’s no holding them on plots that are gone. About the only thing that doesn’t get destroyed is clover and cereal grains before hunting seasons. Or high acreage size and most hunters on land up north don’t have the size, time or cash to put into a large enough plot to withstand heavy use from even half a dozen deer.

Do deer like cranberries??? If so, plant them then flood and harvest for both yourself and the deer…just thinking outside the box.
