Plastic for mounting transducer

Where do you all get the thick plastic block for mounting your transducers?

I know I’ve heard people say they use cutting board, but all I can find is thin cutting board. Do you guys just cut and stack the thin stuff?
I’ve seen a few pics on here of peoples rigs and the stuff they use looks like its 3/4-1″ thick. That is what I’m looking for.

I would like to find some for when I mount a new transducer to my boat. I’m also going to use it for my transom mount trolling motor on the inside of the transom board. I’m in the middle of rebuilding the board, which is exposed to the elements, and I’d like to protect the new board from the bite of the transom mount clamps.

    Yes, thanks Mudshark

I guess I was under the impression that ya’ll cut this stuff from some stock piece and that it wasn’t a pre-made product.

I suppose I could always cut some cutting board pieces, stack, and laminate together with gorilla glue.

Like I said I also want to use it to protect my transom board from my trolling motor clamps. My plan is to drill out some shallow round pockets in the plastic with a Forstner bit that matches the size of the round clamps.

I was recently looking for one myself, I could find a bunch of white and gray ones but couldn’t find a black one. Ended up finding one at R&R in Shakopee.

I used a scrap piece of solid composite deck board and painted it black. That was 5 years ago and it’s still going strong. It’s made for outdoor exposure. It might be different if the boat was docked all summer. I do dock it or beach it when I go camping at VNP, several days at a time, probably 4 weeks total time over a summer.

Lowe’s has 1″ x 6″ x 8′ for $20.00, so you could do several boats with one piece.

I think Home Depot carries it also.

Thanks for the tip. Is the color only on the surface or does it remain if you cut into it? Hoping to find one that will match the stain of my transom board.

The color goes all the way through.
