Plasti-Dip Otter Sled

A few weeks back I said I was going to apply white Plasti-Dip to the inside of my Otter sled to break up the black color. Whenever I drop a jig I have a hard time finding the jig, so I thought I would try the Plasti-Dip and see how it holds up. I used 3/4 of the can and applied 4 coats, the can was $7. I will see how it holds up throughout the season. Best thing about it is if I don’t like it, I can peel it right off and no damage is done to the sled.

Here is the post from a few weeks ago. http://www.in-depthoutdoors.com/community/forums/topic/plasti-dip/

Interesting, I have always wondered how well it did in the cold.

I just put gray carpet in my lodge , it’s also keeps stuff from sliding around as easy, just put a couple bolts and fender washers up front so I can replace after its full of walleye juice ….

    Cal,

What about the nuts from the hyfax?

I don’t run Hyfax, but if I did I would just spray right over them.

I thought about the carpet, but the Otter filled with gear is hard enough to load into the truck. I thought about the carpet thing, but only draw back is if it gets wet and freezes. Let me know how the carpet works.

One thing to note. not sure what release agent is used on the sleds, however to get any paint to stick, you might have to hit it with a torch to sweat out the release agent.

Same here, both of my tented Otters are carpeted. I’d be surprised if they add more than a pound each to the overall weight. I’ve also added a strip of rain gutter cut to length and bolted high in the sled as a pole holder/organizer.

Looks good. Hopefully it holds up. This may very well be the next thing I do to my Otter

How would this work on a boat trailer to stop the paint from chipping?

That’s a great idea, nothing worse than dropping a jig on the floor and not being able to find it. I will be interested to see how it wears for you.

My wheels on the truck have begun to pit/chip, so I put some black Plasti-dip on to cover it up. It has held up very well. The price per can is cheap enough to give it a try, also if you don’t like it just peel it off with zero worries. It peels best with several coats vs an initial coat.

Gave the sled a quick wipe down with some solvent to remove glue and grease.sprayed this on the bottom took about five minutes. See how long it lasts in the child? Couldn’t scrape it off with my pocket knife after it dried time will tell.

I have been using carpet for ever in the bottom of my otter. I have a few different pieces, pull the wet/frozen piece out and let it dry and put in a dry piece. The piece of carpet is roughly 3X5 and doesn’t add that much weight. My otter is customized and I do sit with my feet inside the tub so the carpet serves as insulation and your boots don’t slip around on the bare otter tub. As mentioned above, equipment doesn’t slide around as easy and does add a little cush for equipment while traveling.
