Does anyone know what this plant is? I have some patches on my property that I’d like gone. Chest high in spots.

Possible wild raspberries? (Dang tasty on a bowl of cereal or ice cream)
B-manPosts: 5801May 5, 2020 at 6:26 pm #1940078I’d say wild (red) raspberry or black raspberry. Can’t say 100% since it’s not mature, but I’m saying 99.9%
May 5, 2020 at 6:47 pm #1940085I was told Wild raspberry by someone else once. However they do not produce any fruit ever. They grow like crazy, creeping into my yard and in general a big nuisance.
I have cut down a couple big patches and then used concentrated Round Up and it did not kill them. It burned the leaves some and then they grew right back.
May 5, 2020 at 8:00 pm #1940098I agree wild raspberries or blackberries tough to kill lots of underground runners that spread.

I pour some round up into a jar and use a small paint brush to hit the shoots. This prevents getting round up on neighboring plants you don’t want to harm.
May 5, 2020 at 9:18 pm #1940117looks like multiflora rose. full of thorns that are like hooks.
Its almost worse after it is cut the way it grabs and digs into your flesch. Ranchers used this for fence I heard. Pry have to dig the roots. All over here in sw Wisconsin. Deer don’t even like to go thru itMay 5, 2020 at 9:47 pm #1940126Truly, I have an ‘APP’ for plant identification.
I just took a picture of your posted picture w/the app. It is w/o a doubt: Wild Red Raspberry! They are great eating as has been mentioned. They can be dug and relocated any time of year.
BTW, the APP is called “picture this”. There is a purchase part of the app but I never ‘bought into it’!May 6, 2020 at 7:21 am #1940160I wonder why they never produce any raspberries then?? Seriously I have some big areas 20×30 ft of so and not one raspberry.
Also they never flower.

And if you got pants on it will literally stop your leg mid walk. Strong stuff.B-manPosts: 5801May 6, 2020 at 8:25 am #1940183I wonder why they never produce any raspberries then?? Seriously I have some big areas 20×30 ft of so and not one raspberry.

You could try tossing some fertilizer down?

Are they in full sun? Raspberries like sun.
They are certainly some type of wild raspberry. Raspberries are prolific. We have a berry patch and get often get shoots growing up in the lawn 10-12 feet from the patch.

I’d like to get some of the bigger sections gone because it’s just a waste of space and we can’t even walk through or use the land. Not like it’s providing berries for the wildlife or doing anything useful.

Some of the stuff is in full sun yes. Some of it is in the woods. We have so much that it is choking out other vegetation and in general just pretty nasty.
Might have to try some ground clear or something stronger than round up….. I’m sick of it.
May 6, 2020 at 10:51 am #1940242Wondering if you’re cutting them back every year. Some raspberry cultivars need two years to fruit. Not sure if wild raspberries are the same.
Snake ii’sPosts: 515May 6, 2020 at 12:00 pm #1940272Raspberries and blackberries like to bloom on new growth. You can cut them down to the ground and see what pops up for next year.

May 6, 2020 at 12:19 pm #1940283Here is an area about 500 sq ft. Maybe bigger. I have cut it to the ground several times. Never seen a single berry. This area will be over my head by mid summer and extremely thick.

May 6, 2020 at 1:07 pm #1940293Here are some pics of another area by my shop. At least 1200 sq ft and longer than most peoples driveways. I’d like to have a little 4 wheeler trail going through this area for my son but it’s too thick. I’ve also done some extensive cutting in this area in the past but have since given up. Again, never seen a single berry.
