Coyle just got there in May I think. He was brought in to clean up messes like this. I guarantee he is not going anyplace. Also unless those players have a video of Kalar in the room with them he’s not going anyplace either.

Arrrrrggghhhh I have no idea what the thought process is here.
Coyle and Kahler are going to skate away from this Shite pile.
Coach Fleck now has two more season tickets he can sell.

I chose the wrong career. That’s a lot of money for a self promoting motivational speaker.Does he know what a waterfall is? Does he understand that instead of fighting the current, you can just ride it out?
I think this guy knows to swim cross current to reach his goal swifter.
Let’s revisit this row boat conversation in 4 years.
January 6, 2017 at 9:50 pm #1663154I suppose it’s almost time for Goldy to come in with bells on and…?

There will be more messes to clean up, and the stuff will splatter on Coyle then too. It’s a process and comes back around every couple years. Just ask Musselman, Dutcher, Boston, Haskins, Teague, Kill, J Anderson and Claeys, etc, etc, etc…

He is the president of the ENTIRE UNIVERSITY. Shocking as it may be, football is a tiny part of what the UMN does, and to be frank it is one of the least impactful/useful aspects of the U as far as helping society in general; which, as a land grant university is the overall mission anyway. To put things in perspective, the 2015 UMN endowment was $3.5 billion. Fleck’s salary is 0.1% of that, and that’s not including any contribution from football boosters or game revenue. By all means there were missteps by the administration, and feel free to rip the AD, but calling for Kaler’s head over something as insignificant as the football program is a bit ridiculous.
hawkguyPosts: 76January 6, 2017 at 11:38 pm #1663168Great hire for the gophers. As a diehard Hawkeye fan this hire makes me a little nervous. Legendary Hawkeye coach Hayden Fry once said that Minny was a “sleeping giant”. Can Fleck awaken the giant? My opinion is that if he does well he will bolt for a better job if given the chance.
January 7, 2017 at 8:03 am #1663203” sleeping giant” thats been asleep many, many years. What was Fry’s last year anyway?
I would say they are in a coma not sleeping.

Name the other departments where they have any of the issues that currently plague the athletics department.
Name the other departments who have dismissed their faculty heads and pay still pay them 5 mill to leave quietly.
Give me a number that the president “KAHLER” has approved to pay former coaches who no longer work for them.
Kahler is the man who made all the dumbarse moves to hire and dismiss the coaches, and there has been absolutely no improvement in the athletics department to show for it.
He above of all others should be gone.hawkguyPosts: 76January 7, 2017 at 2:33 pm #1663278” sleeping giant” thats been asleep many, many years. What was Fry’s last year anyway?

Hayden retired after the ’98 season. He is right though. The metro’s population is pretty close to Iowa’s statewide population, and we do ok. Fleck seems to be a good recruiter, and if he can lock down the boarder and get a few recruits from elsewhere he will do well. The question is, if he has success will he stay?

Jan 6: Fleck: Row the Boat
Minnesotans: Got two of ’em over by Mille Lacs. You?
Fleck: That’s not what I …
Minnesotans: No motor on it, eh?

Eh…ha! We’ll see how this ” rows” out?
BTW, for all those that expressed grave concerns of the expense this would inflict upon “The U”, this was just reported that our ” President Elect” has pledged that the Golden Gopher football program coffers will be overflowing.*(*At the taxpayers expense)… tee hee!

FryDog62Posts: 3696January 8, 2017 at 9:15 am #1663431This guy is all hype no substance
Now you’re describing Brewster …
January 8, 2017 at 9:29 am #1663436We will give him 4 years and a couple contract extensions to prove himself. If he does prove to know what he is doing he will take his row boat and his new found Norski clown show and hit the road for greener pastures. If… he turns into another Brewster he will take our millions plus a tidy little check as a parting gift and go to work under Kill at Rutgers. Old Aw Shucks by then will be head coach, Mr. Laid back Claeys will be the D coordinator and PJ can slide in as O coordinator.
January 8, 2017 at 2:27 pm #1663502This guy is a Lane Kiffin wanabee.
I’m predicting his first 9-win season on a weak schedule (like this season) will have him bolting for greener pastures. Perhaps the administration should have brought in his first wife, the mother of his 4 children, to get a more well-rounded assessment of his promises and commitment.
“Minnesota is my dream job!” …yeah ok, and a 1995 Chevy Lumina is my dream car
