Pitch on Strikemaster drills and lazer vs chipper blades

I bought a new 8″ lazer flight last winter and it has worked like a charm until the last time I went out. I had to put all my weight on it just to drill a hole, it wouldn’t grab the ice like usual. Does this mean the pitch is off, and is there anything I can do to fix it? If not, I have the option of purchasing a new chipper flight for cheap, and am wondering if you can ruin the pitch on chipper blades as well? Also, are they really that much slower than the lazers? Thanks in advance, I could really use some good advice!

I would get pitch checked and blades checked and or sharpened, strikemaster service center should have jig to check pitch, lazer bits cut much better then a chipper but chipper is better at reopening holes. Good luck

If you have not been banging the drill up and down as you try to get a hole drilled I would say that you have dull blades.

I have a lazer and sometimes this happens to me. If there is ice built up on the cutting blades it will not want to drill. All you need to do in this case is carefully chip the ice off the bottom of the blades. Even a thin layer of ice will make it not want to cut. I love my lazer and when drilling through a couple feet or more of ice they really shine for speed.

I’d bet money your blades are dull, I’ve ran into the same situation before with my Lazer. Time for a new set.
