I have an LX7 and can change the Ping Rates. Can anyone explain Ping Rates a little? Thanks!

Ping rate is the rate at which your LX-7 shoots a sonar signal to the bottom.

Higher ping rates, equal more sonar signals per second.

For stationary ice fishing, I wouldn’t think that you would need a high ping rate.
Typically, we increase ping rates while running around in the boat looking for fish.
Higher ping rates will show better detail when the boat is moving compared to slower
    ping rates.

So would that make a bigger “blob”? Or does that have nothing to do with it?

To expand on what has already been said; Each “ping” is like a snapshot or frame on a camera. Slower frames per second or pings per second will not capture all of what’s happening due to the lapse between snapshots. Higher ping rate will generally be better for shallow water. Deeper water will give a clearer picture at a slower ping rate due to the time needed for the first ping to return to the transducer. If the first ping does not bounce back and reach the transducer before the next ping is sent, the unit can get “confused” and not display properly.

Had to think about that for a minute. I’m not sure the “blob” factor would be all
that different although I admit that its something I would have to try to be sure.

Thanks everyone! Starting to see. I may have to experiment a little bit this weekend with ping rates.
