I tried to play it just once. It was kind of fun. I know diehard tennis players that call it the game of those who are to old or out or shape to play real tennis.
its a lot of fun. ive played a lot of ping pong. its essentially like that but on a bigger scale.
One thing to be aware of though is those turtles will eat you for lunch. Im 39 and yeah it stung a bit when that 77 year old guy with knee high socks put me to shame

LOL I sometimes have that issue with some older fellas in racquetball but the longer the match goes on, the more it tilts in my favor. Will keep that in mind if I give it a try though.
Meh, one only has so many heartbeats, why waste them on exercise.
I remember doing it back in high school gym class. It was one of the most anticipated weeks of gym class, just behind hockey week. I really enjoyed it.

Everyone calls it that.
It’s fun. my parent’s “old folks camp” in Az has 26 courts. They bring in portable lights for tournaments. My racketball partner moved. I play pickle ball a bit now. Not to sound like a jerk, I’m 53 and usually the youngest by 15 years. Have to get my buddies to play.
I helped pour a local’s own double pickleball court back in college for cash. It didn’t take too many beverages before he (probably late 60s at the time) was hustling us college guys on the court one summer afternoon. The guy told us that there was a dozen or so locals that would come play on his courts for hours on end. They weren’t into golfing and enjoyed the competition and higher activity level of pickleball.
It’s not really appealing to me now, but down the road I could see it if someone nearby wanted to play. There’s just not enough hours in the day right now…maybe someday though
Everyone calls it that.
I don’t care how old or young an opponent is. Gonna bust out a can of whoop ass on whoever I play. I don’t discriminate. No mercy. LOL
pickleball is a blast! Its kind of like playing ping pong on a tennis court. It takes some skill to play with the best of them.
It incredible to me how this game went from nothing to huge popularity in a matter of years. My parents winter in AZ and in their development first they built one court next to the tennis court. Then a year later, they ripped up ALL the tennis courts to build a PB courts. Now there are 30 courts and they are in use about 18 hours a day. Now the tennis players have one court out in back of the clubhouse next to the employee’s parking lot by the dumpsters.

Yes, tennis players used to call racketball that as well. Until they get run to exhaustion around a rb court by a top player with A-league shot placement, they always assume that fitness and power win every time.
Obviously, the fitness part of the game is less important in PB. We can’t all be ultramarathon runners. That doesn’t mean it takes any less skill to beat a good player.

Quote of the day.
Gave me a good chuckle.
I used to play a lot of racquetball. Sometime on my lunch hour then 2 or 3 hours after work. Then blew my knee up riding a quad runner. Lower leg went straight out to the side like on cartoons. Not nearly as funny in real life by the way. Never trusted the knee to play for 30 years. Figured I’d save it for making a living. My wife and I started pickleball last year, in our mid 60’s. Working out pretty well so far. Not a lot of beginners where we play. Easier game to play if you’re not in top shape.
I have not tried it. But my wife is hooked plays 4 times a week. And I got 3 hrs of peace and quite.
Just opened a new club in NE MPLS. Looks like fun so we signed up.
I was on the tennis circuit for a while so this is way below my fitness level – just doing it to spend quality time with my wife.

It’s a blast! I played tennis in high school and loved it, played about four days a week during the summer and would be in great shape for hockey in the fall. Haven’t been able to play tennis since my mid thirties, I’m 61 now (weird to type that) and PB is perfect. Young or old It’s always good to break a hard sweat.
…ping pong is played with a paddle, c’mon man.

Here is a couple of my lines glenn.
If you ever see me jogging please kill whatever is chasing me.
If you’re in good enough shape to run 3 miles a day, you’re in good enough shape not to.

Haha. Definitely a paddle in that one.
That begs the question, in pickleball is it a paddle or a racquet?

Officially it’s a paddle and I’ve seen them sell for $200!
Give it a try, it’s fun!

Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in America and courts are popping up everywhere. I am in my mid 30’s and love pickleball. My only suggestion is to learn the basics before joining a league (or risk getting smoked by the old timer’s).

the more exercise you do, the more heartbeats you get.
I was down in Arizona last week watching my neice play softball. The complex had a huge National Pickleball tourney going on. The guy running it said $75k to the winning team.

For some reason, most of the leagues and matches I see are doubles. I can’t quite figure that part out. If its a game where running and endurance isn’t an issue, and even “old timers” can dominate, why is everyone playing doubles?
Over the years, I’ve come to HATE playing doubles in tennis, racquetball, badminton, and ping pong. My teammate and I have generally just gotten in the way of each other. I do much better when I play singles in these sports/events.
I play 3-4 times per week. Used to be a die-hard tennis player, but as my partner and I got older we could not play a long enough rally to really get a heart benefit anymore. Switched to PB about 3 years ago and never looked back. Play for around 2 hours each time now, some better players and some not as good, but still, have fun and it is a much better workout for me. I struggled for a while because of my tennis game but not I really enjoyed it. Depending on who and how you play it is a great workout. Our group also likes to tease in the “young” hard hitters and we hit the dings and get to the net. They stay back and think they can just smash them at us. NEVER WORKS
