picked up an OLDER StrikeMaster gas(25-1) 10 inch auger. Questions

So I am going to start ice fishing this year. I have never done it before so I bought this OLD auger from my best friend that had not used it in like forever. We dumped the oil(gas all evaporated) from the tank, put in some new gas and dang if it didn’t start right up and run like a champ. I took it to the local lake today to do a test drill and man it sucked.
Took me like 3 minutes to drill through 4 inches. The drill was wobbling around and actually drilled a hole that was more like 12 inches. Not fun. I thought maybe the blades were dull and sure enough, lots of dents and dings so I looked online for new ones and found them but they are all straight and mine have a curve to them. See attached pics.

What is wrong with this drill? It has no center point or guide of any kind. Is that right?? I think that is why it wobbles all over the place.
    Thanks for your help.

Look like strikemaster laser blades to me. They still have a slight curve in them. I would try that first but if it is wobbling you may have a bent auger bit. You can find used bits for fairly cheap. Let us know what it does after the install of new blades.

They are supposed to be curved. Pretty sure the straight ones are for hand auger.

Not sure on the blades, probably dull? I have an 8″ bit off my strikemaster just laying around. It has awesome blades, cover and a center point. Not sure I will ever need it again. I’d be willing to let it go fairly cheap or trade for something fishing related?

If I cant get this one working I may be interested.

Wow, that blade is trashed. Was someone trying to use this as a earth auger?

I agree that it looks like StrikeMaster but you should be able to confirm. If StrikeMaster look at replacement blades model LPD-10PB.

I have the same auger and had the same issue once upon a time. These are great augers that are coveted before they went to the power point bits.

Your blades are either dull (Likely) or the pitch is out. Either way, take it to D-Rock and they will check the pitch and get you some new blades.

Properly running, those augers are amazing. By the time the recoil hits the motor and you will already be 6″ into the ice

only problem with taking it to D-rock is the 6 hour drive from Milwaukee.

    where are you located?

Rochester MN…..i see its a ways from Millwaukee! Those 10″ holes swallow anything that falls in their vicinity….be careful.

Dont step in those 10″ holes!

I have fallen victim to this more then once in my days.
When my son started coming out with me I sold the 10 inch because I was scared he would fall through.

They are great to fish out of but I walked into one and got a boot stuck once and it scared the @$#&* out of me.

    Bruce,

This place is in Mountain WI it’s about 2 1/2 hrs from Milwaukee. They’ve worked on a lot of augers from our group, mine included. They are factory authorized for Eskimo and Jiffy, but they know Strikemasters as well.

Ya I see that. My round tip up barely covers the hole.
Anybody want to trade a 10 inch for an 8 inch?
