Nature sure can be strange sometimes. Today i saw the same Deer standing in the same place in the ditch 2 times 20 minutes apart. First time she ran into the woods and returned to the exact same spot. Second time she just watched me slow down and go by. She didn’t run off into the woods. Nice to see she hadn’t been run over yet.

1/2 hour ago I watched 3 Rooster Pheasants cross my neighbors driveway and walk into the tall grass. I love watching and listening to Pheasants. They have such a cool sound to them and their coloring is beautiful. Two years ago we has a lot of them around, last year hardly any and this year there seems to be a few around.

Road spotting pheasants always puts a smile on my face, no matter what time of year it is.

I feel like I’m destroying artwork every time I dress them. Their colors only get more impressive up close.

Christmas dinner at the parents today a pheasant went strutting through the back yard. You can’t help but stop and watch those birds.

My son and I each got one today in Wisconsin. It was his first rooster. We flushed about 7 roosters and 10 hens.

I really really really like Peasants I just wish they were not so stupid and easy prey for any meat eating mammal that happens to be around.

You can’t beat pheasants for the awe factor when they flush. Here is a pic of 3 limits worth of wild birds in Wyoming from Friday.

There’s just something about road flushing a pheasant when you aren’t expecting it. I darn near hit one right on the windshield this year scouting for ducks out west.

Unfortunately for my pup and I, we didn’t make it out for pheasant this year with the new baby at home. If there’s an open weekend with warmer temps, I’ll think about a game farm trip.

I’ve been doing a lot of reading on where the pheasants have disappeared to, at least in the metro area. Seems there were a lot more 10-20 years ago, but I suppose that just goes hand in hand with development of rural areas and the subsequent loss of cover and food. I have an 8 month old lab that I am trying to get on some wild birds right now without actually shooting. Have been walking the marsh/railroad tracks along Hwy 13 near 494. I heard a lot of guys take their dogs down there(my grandpa used to as well) because there is a decent number of birds but I have only seen a few tracks in many many hours of tough walking, both morning and evening. Sure is cool seeing all the deer and other wildlife that is practically untouched down there, anyways!

Today my group of Pheasants numbers 7. They continue to move through the taller grass right across the road. With the snow I’m sure finding food is getting harder. Question……if I throw cracked corn on my side of the road, maybe up in the Pine trees will they find it? I don’t know what their sense of smell is like. Will they continue to travel where they have been or will they smell that corn even if it’s under snow?

They will find it if the squirrels don’t first. I’m not sure of their sense of smell, but there eye sight is unreal.
