Billy and I made a wreath this year with pheasant feathers and cattails from hunting. We had seen a few pheasant wreaths last year and decided to make one! When we first hung it up, our GSPs Fritz and Remi kept sniffing the air curiously and stairing up at the wall. smile

Very cool idea. We’ve used pheasant and grouse feathers, and deer antlers, to accent our Thanksgiving dinner holiday table as well. Gives it an outdoor feel for the season.
What is Fritz’s vertical leap?? This may help him attain his PB.

wow, that’s pretty neat! Do you spray those cattails with hairspray or something from the craft store? I suppose next year you can just hunt down some fresh ones, kinda another family tradition. A couple years ago I made a pine cone garland on a string on mini white lights, it’s pretty cool, just takes a lot of pine cones.

Thanks everyone! Fritz is a pretty good jumper! He’s actually started this thing where he stands up like a Meerkat. Just stands on his hind legs and looks around like it’s a totally normal thing for a dog to do that. I keep trying to catch him with that camera. )

Neat! I (or the wife) needs to make something like that! I have kept tail feathers from all the pheasants that I have shot the last few years, and now I’ve got a few mason jars acting like a vase that are stuffed full of feathers.

I also got a chuckle out of the dogs sniffing around the area. Every year I take a trip to SD to pheasant hunt at one of my friends families ranches. They have a flying pheasant mount on the wall, last year my lab jumped up and tried snagging it off the wall. Luckily, I was sitting in a chair right next to it and noticed him eye balling it right before he jumped, and basically I jumped out of the chair to tackle him right before he got to it!

^^ Good thing you got him! I wonder if it’s still the scent or if it’s also the sight of the birds that gets the dogs going. The feathers we used on the wreath are from last year. They’ve been sitting in a closet. It’s hard to imagine they still smell like a pheasant, but then again, I don’t have a dog’s nose.

We did last night! I didn’t realize the cattails might explode in to puffs of seed at some point. Billy doused them with some hairspray last night. Now the wreath smells like my hair. )

Mmmm, nothing like the smell of Hoppe’s #9! mrgreen Since I do most of the gun cleaning my hands smell like that quite often this time of year. I’m just glad it’s not powerful enough to remove my nail polish.
