On Sunday, I was able to hunt with @Sharon, her husband, Billy, and friend, Kenny. Our schedules only allowed a short, afternoon hunt, but a hunt is a hunt, so why not?

Skies were overcast, and it was breezy. A lot of corn in the area was down, but there was still a field with standing corn adjacent to the property that we hunted. We didn’t see a lot of birds–a couple hens, and maybe 5 roosters. We also saw 2 woodcock. Billy shot one pheasant, and I shot another (which Sharon retrieved for me grin ). All in all, it was great to get out, enjoy nature, and watch the dogs do their thing.

Awesome! I’m really excited about Iowa opener this weekend. I have heard the birds are doing well and the corn is ahead of schedule.

Took my 14 yo son out to far NW North Dakota and hunted 5 days 10/22-10-26.

We had a fantastic trip, seeing tons of birds each day and limiting out.
The number of ducks/geese/sandhill cranes out there is mind-boggling tho, there were wings in the sky overhead 24/7.
Only hunted public and unposted private, with most of the crops other than corn and flaxseed being out already.

Already have plans to head back out next year for his MEA weekend.

Both birds that I cleaned had about a 50/50 mix of corn and grasshoppers in their stomachs. That was kind of neat to see.

Well I couldn’t let my boys roam through that thistle patch, now could I? LOL what a fun afternoon! Can’t wait to get back out there.
