Pflueger President Reels

I was looking at purchasing a couple of these reels. The standard $49 or $59 dollar Presidents. I am trying to decide between the size 20 or size 25. Probably matching to a 6′-6″ to 6′-9″ ML action rod. These will be used primarily for walleye fishing. Jigging, pitching, casting, etc. Does anyone have a preference between the size 20 vs the size 25 for this application? Spec wise the only difference I see is the amount of ball bearings and thus the weight.

I appreciate any feedback or advice.

    Thanks.

I like the 30 for walleye. I would not go smaller than the 25.

Whichever size balances your rod out best.

I prefer to stay as light weight as possible but wanted to make sure the 20 would handle it.

I happen to like the 30 series reels for open water Walleye. I have a handful of each (20,25,30 and 35). To me, the 20/25 is a great small reel for panfish or ice fishing, but I feel they may be a little small for open water Walleye. Fishing gear is all about how it fits the angler, however. You may like the smaller profile a little better.

If I was sold on the 20/25 size, I would for sure go with the 25 for extra drag and more bearings over the 20.

The Pflueger Size 30 is one of my all-time favorite spinning reel sizes. Small enough to pair well with a light sub-7′ rod, but still enough capacity to handle big trophy fish. And the President is one of the best “bang for your buck” reels out there.

I use the 20 on my ice fishing real and switch it to my light weight crappie rod during the summer. I would agree with most others and say on a 6’6″ ML walleye rod i would go with the 25. One main difference besides the bearings is the smaller spool size on the 20 which will limit the amount of line you have to work with.

I just bought 6 new Presidents. Size 30 for my Smoothies and 35’s for the 8 footers.

The newest Pflueger PRESSP## models are a nice update over the 69## president models. I picked up four of the 20 size for my son’s ice rods.

I use the 6920’s on my icefishing rods and have one of the 6930 on open water smallmouth setup. They are great reels work great in cold conditions ice fishing outside.

I typically use 30 in all my pflugers. I do have some 35s which seem to big. A 25 I think would work decent if you are going to be jigging or some light casting. I can’t imagine how small a 20 must be as I have never seen one.

For reference, a size 25 Pflueger matches up to a 1000 size Shimano.

I have had a President 35 for several years now and have loved it. Actually just bought a new rod and reel today, picked up a President XT 30. Looking for something small and light, but couldnt get myself to go down to the 25. Seemed real small
