They said Rose missed 5 regular season games between the ages of 32 and 41. As a Twins fan this is not even comprehensible.

It is not the HOF writers and members. From what I have read and heard, Rose signed a contract that banned him from MLB for life.

Rose and Commissioner A. Bartlett Giamatti signed an agreement in which Rose agreed to a lifetime ban from baseball in return for the league not making a formal determination about whether or not he had bet on baseball.

He in theory is not even in consideration or on a ballot. Well his lifetime is now over. Be interesting to see where the HOF discussion goes next.

Cooperstown operates completely separate from MLB, and they can do as they please or not as far as allowing people to be eligible for the Hall. Once eligible then it is up to the Baseball Writers of America.

A lifetime ban is really good point. He should be inducted into the HOF now that he’s gone.

Pete would roll over in his grave if they inducted him now.

Major League Baseball’s all-time hits leader, Pete Rose, never was able to join his legendary teammates from the 1970’s Big Red Machine in the Baseball Hall of Fame because his name never appeared on the official ballot for consideration.

How are ballot nominations handled ?
