Perspective on Skeeter Package Pricing

I see the mx is under powered, rated for 300 hp and only putting a 250 in the package. This really hurts the resale value. I know. Sbc told me that about my under powered aluminum boat when I wanted to trade it in. cry

A boat being under powered can hurt resale value, but having less than the max rated hp does not necessarily mean it is under powered.
What boat and motor did you want to trade in ?

On the other hand those of us with MX 2025s with 300 offshore might see a bump in resale value to someone who wants digital throttle and smart gauge with a 300 to boot! On a side note I LOVE my offshore GREAT motor

I was thinking the same thing. There is a used MX2025 with a 300 offshore in the WC classifieds. It is all decked out too.

I think this package deal is far from being a deal at all.
I mean after searching for a year now and trying this boat and that boat and outboard – I for the first time was settled on ‘MY” perfect boat. Plan to order one some time next year.

Now I find I can only get it rigged one way……..some how that simply does not seem right at all. Oh well…….
What is more searching any way………

I have read they will offer lowrance and that work in my favor.
Is there a choice in which Lowrance ?
Also what trolling motor will be offered ? I mean it is the Xi5 motor guide that works with the Lowrance…

When will the info be published on their site as to the complete package deal ?

I just want a MX 20 foot 4 inch boat with out any headaches.

I am sure that you will be able to get it with the Xi5 without too much hassle. You are also correct in saying that Lowrance will communicate with it as well.

Hi James, your dealer should work with you on the items you mentioned. Nothing you have mentioned would be a issue for our dealership. We commonly switch out trolling motors and electronics are certainly a very personalized approach to every customer.

    Hi Dean,
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. You truly bring good news and hope that is for sure. You are about the 5 person or situation that has pointed me to Ramsey MN in the past few days.

In Michigan now but thinking about moving back to Ohio, perhaps I should be thinking about MN. lol

Hey here is a question we are pondering on…..
There are a couple of dealerships in the state of ohio who sell skeeter boats BUT they also sell MANY other brands – this brings us to wondering if the service would be authentic and personal or just enough to get by. I have seen it before when dealerships have so many brands they simply do not do the greatest job at rigging or know a paticular boat and set up all that well.

So if a person bought a boat in say Ramsey MN and lived in Ohio.
If service is needed or anything along that line – will they have to plan on that 12 hour drive or so – or could a local yamaha dealer handle warenty or service etc ?

Truthfully – what I have read and seen from the SBC’s is simply amazing compared to what I have seen from some local dealers (around ohio)

    Thank you again

    HI,
I am new to the yamaha scene and have a question about the VMax SHO.

I have read that this outboard was created for the Bass Boat scene with the high performance run and gun that they need and do. So this brings me to this question.

How well will the 250 VMax SHO work with the MX 2040 for those who are “not in need of speed” and depend on a work horse that will fish 5 or 6 days a week 10 – 18 hours a day ?

Forgive me here ;) I know with the E-TEC scene they frown on putting th HO on something used for hard core fishing over a high performance type boat where speed is the key.

    Thank you for your time

James, short answer to a very good question in regards to the SHO on our MX2040 / WX2060 , Yamaha = Reliability . This particular motor is virtually the same as the Offshore that we have been rigging those boats for several years with a few tweaks. Bottom line, while no motor can claim 100% perfection, I highly doubt any brand can supersede Yamaha, where reliability is concerned.

As far as dealerships go, I really have no background on the dealers in your area so I cant tell you to assume the worst. But yes, we do have several long distance relationships with many customers. We do our best to accommodate accordingly and yes, any authorized Yamaha dealer can perform service on your motor. Typically, we have been able to walk most folks through service work. We also have several NON Skeeter/ Yamaha brands in for service as well, so we do what we can for all of our fishing friends regardless of their brand of choice.

    Dean,
Thank you once again for taking time out of your busy day to answer some questions. OBTW I would not ever put you on the spot like that asking about other dealers, especially in a forum and such. I just wanted to make a point to why I am askiing about long distance customres. Wish I could have just thought of that. lol

I have seen some faulty work done by dealers who push 5 or more different boats and only know very little about each one. Short cuts get taken and down the road you find an extra whole here and there and so forth. NOT all dealers are like this…

Any way this is all good to know thank you……..

Oh one more thing on the Vmax SHO 250…….
I know the F200 V6 can have Precision Trolling with the Variable trolling RPM set up. Can the V-MAX 250 SHO have the same set up and if so would it work well or tend to load things up ?

I really was hoping to not have to run a kicker –
    Thanks again

    @JamesHolst,
I know you are very busy and thank you for all the time you put in to the forums and the fishing world.

I dug up an old video from 2012 where you did a walk through from bow to stern on the new 1825 MX. About 18 minutes worth.

I keep thinking that with the new changes and package deal on the MX2040 that if you could even find the time – that perhaps another “Good” walk through video would be in order. Might help to Remind others that the same Quality features that drew us to the skeeter MX in the first place has Gone Un-Changed and the new package deal – well it really is a good thing.

I am not trying to get up in your business sir – but I know these days that “CHOICE” plays a HUGE roll in directing a man in his choices. That is why many other places are now starting to push it is all about choices and now YOU have the control and such.

I admit that when I first read about this package deal it hit me wrong. I was quite upset and sad. I am going back to guiding again. Walked away about 15 years ago and am looking to move back home to Ohio and get back with it some time next year.

So after almost 2 years of boat researching I found “MY” perfect boat – then right as I find it – change hits and Package deal is on the table. However – as I said before – with the Skeeter MX2025 or 2040 all I can see or find is what is right and what exceeds my expectations in My Perfect Boat. For almost 2 years every time I thought I found the righ boat – all I could see is what I did not like and why it was not right. The new 620 FS and 250 G2 was the last almost choice.

Any way James, I just wanted to mention this to you. All the skeeter boat stories and other video’s available sure make all the difference out there.

Have a great season this year

FWIW, Skeeter Boat Centers’ main store is in Chippewa Falls WI (near Eau Claire), so that saves you 2 hours/120 miles.

Dean…when you say you “switch out” trolling motors and electronics it makes it sound as if this is an exchange done as part of the package deal at no additional cost.
are you really talking a situation where the customer buys a new Humminbird for installation and the dealer “buys” back the Lowrance at a discounted amount? (resulting in a net increase in cost over the advertised package price.)
i’m not suggesting there’s anything wrong with that occurring, just that it’s unclear from your post, and i want to be sure that we’re discussing fully accurate information about the pros and cons of this package pricing.
and if SBC or any other dealer can do those kinds of exchanges and still hit the advertised package price…well, that’d be good.

    Mike,

Thanks for the question and while I try my best to communicate via a keyboard, I do find that I am better face to face or the phone.

To answer your question as best I can, there is a dealer option to delete the electronics on a order out boat. With that said, we really attempt to work with everyone on a case by case basis. And yes, sometimes we will credit a trolling motor exchange as needed or potentially another factory option. Please keep in mind, this is certainly up to the given dealer and I can in no way speak for anyone but ourselves.

That feature is not an option for the SHO. Depending on your trolling situation & or applications, many folks will troll with the wind with their bow mount and use the big motor into the current if trying to avoid a kicker motor investment.F My last 4or 5 boats have had the digital troll down feature and I don’t think I have ever used it. Really, it depends on your intended usage & expectations. By all means, there is not a blanket answer for everyone.

    @DeanMarshal,
Thank you for the information on the 250 SHO.
I got to see one at idle on a boat today and a couple of quick revs as it was in neutral – WOW man that things has got some torque and Power. The engine jumped and shook the boat. lol

I think MY Problem entirely is very simply – Being stubborn and afraid of change. Sad but truthfully funny.

So with that said – bring on the 250 SHO and a kicker and may this be a start of the best chapter of my life so far.
    Thanks again Dean

JW FWIW I will throw in my 2 cents. I bought a MX1825 4 years ago from SBC. It is a 4 hour trip one way to their location from my house. I have one Skeeter dealer a mile away from my cabin in Central Wisconsin where the boat is stored/used all summer. Another dealer an hour away from the cabin or it’s an hour away from my house. I would not buy a boat from either one. There service and pricing does not even compare to SBC. If you have a problem SBC will do whatever it takes to make it right. If there is a better marine dealer somewhere I have not heard of it.

Is it known yet what is the total package deal made up of ?
At this point it does not matter if it is yellow and green striped boat with orange dots – I will still be getting one.

I hope the 2016 brochure that is on its way will have this package deal listed.
Thank you for the good news

Calvin, Any chance you could post the WX2060 flyer? I have been very interested in the MX 2040, but I feel I will be better served with WX 2060. I spend 95% of time on the Lake Erie & Lake St. Clair. I appreciate all of the info that is on this forum, I live in Ohio, and most of the dealers are interested in selling bass boats, not walleye or multi-species boats, even though we have some of the best fishing for walleye, musky, & smallmouth in the country. I do like the package boat pricing, I see some things I will need to work thru with the dealer on the options. Tracks vs rails, trolling motor shaft lengths, and some other small things, but doable. Thanks again for all the good info, it is fun walking in knowing more about the boats and pakages than the local dealers do!
