Well after moving snow I got all the posts driven. The bit worked flawlessly this time around. The snowblower didn’t fit in the tram so I had to snow blow down the neighbor’s hill, onto the lake and over to my place. Then back up the hill.
The 20′ post were a b!&$h. Some of the post were driven 7’+.Next time up I will install the joist.
I’m pretty sure I’ll have it ready before ice out.
I’m exhausted.

Yes, I spoke with the company that manufacturers them over in Prescott WI. They want a diagram of the structure, where it is located on the lake and the lake itself so they can calculate the size and location needed.
I just haven’t gotten around to that yet, hopefully this weekFebruary 18, 2019 at 7:09 am #1836234My next biggest hurdle is to get the old rolling dock out of there. I was planning on taking the S x S out there with the flatbed trailer but the record snow has me going to plan “B”. Bad news is I don’t have a plan “B” yet.
Iowaboy1Posts: 3791March 8, 2019 at 8:13 pm #1841725plan b is something done in the heat of the moment ,plans,c,d,e and those following involve anfo, tannerite, nitro, dynamite, primacord,or C-4,
with careful planning of course, dont wanna turn any little fishies inside out sixteen times ya know.March 15, 2019 at 5:41 pm #1843564I got the joist set and some decking on today. Everything went smooth.
I thought I was going to be short 4×6’s but had a 3′ chunk leftover.
Heading to Crosslake tomorrow for the St. Paddy’s parade or I would be finished. Pretty sure I will be done by Sunday PM along with the de-icer in place.
Back and shoulder are sore, but nothing a handful of Coronas won’t cure.
I can’t believe I’m saying this but “bring on the open water”Attachments:
31liferPosts: 152March 15, 2019 at 6:21 pm #1843572So that’s what a fake dock looks like.
Now that’s funny.
Don’t you have a Wild game to watch?
March 15, 2019 at 9:05 pm #1843592looks great, the sooner you can get de-icer in better, and i would strongly suggest drilling a bunch a holes around the outside of the dock to free it from the main ice sheet, that ice is alot like frost in the ground no stopping it once it starts moving!! I’ve learned this the hard way!! dont forgot to add the built in box for the kiddos!!
March 15, 2019 at 11:36 pm #1843621epg, I keep look’in for grade stamps. Assume that you are using .60 treated barrial grade or is there something better for this purpose now?
March 16, 2019 at 8:23 am #1843640Gregory,
Don’t think I don’t lose sleep thinking the dock may end up in the middle of the lake. If all goes well the De-icer should be set by Sunday afternoon.
The guys at Kasco Marine in Prescott, WI where they are manufactured did a great job of helping me size and place the de-icer.Denny,
I can’t believe it took this long for someone to ask that question. The Copper Azole makes it safe for the water. The guys at Peterson Wolmanizing in Superior, WI did a good job of educating me on a safe product, and something that will last.https://petersonwoodtreating.com/product.html

March 16, 2019 at 9:40 pm #1843748With the de-icer are you going to run it 24-7? or did you purchase there timer box with temp selection? there pretty low wattage, did you purchase 1/2hp or 3/4? That open water attracks ducks and other critters! Also don’t forgot to make sure you plug it into some sort of gfci. hope you get it de iced!!

I will run it 24/7 until ice out. I figured it cost me $100 to put the dock in and $100 to have it taken out so I’ll come out ahead on the electrical costs. I have a GFCI less than 50′ from installation point. The de-icers come with a 25’cord but they offer a 50′ option.
and yes, the wildlife is a bonus.Got all the heavy lifting complete. After my morning cup of coffee it’s just a matter of fastening and trimming.

Ya, where are your strobes and red blinking marker lights for the top of your poles? Huh, huh??

LOL! Oh boy, now you got me thinking.
March 17, 2019 at 1:57 pm #1843831I could probably go back and look, but what’s the water depth at the end of your dock? Must drop pretty good on your shoreline.

The dock is 24′ long. It’s 7′ – 8′ at the end of the dock. From there I can cast into 35′ of water. The guys at Kasco said i’m at a perfect depth for the de-icer to work.
March 17, 2019 at 2:13 pm #1843840Done! except for the strobe lights.
Got the de-icer running. We are going to stay over night tonight. I’m curious to see if there will be any open water. The de-icer sure has a lot of torque to it.
The cord for the de-icer is 50′ but I needed 60′ I had to rig up an extension cord.

Probably not an issue. There’s always a tire between a boat and a post.
