Might want to get him to anchor that scaffolding and wrap a tarp around for a wind break for you. Nothing like supervising a job while cold. jester or just wait until he gets out towards the end and have him drill ya a couple of holes to fish out of while he pounds the last few posts. Noise (as we learned) doesn’t bother fish. waytogo

What I need is a friggen shoveler. We prolly got 17-18″ of snow.
Have to do office stuff today. I’ll head out tomorrow am.
I should have the 1st section of uprights completed by sunset tomorrow.

Ask the neighbors to shovel. I would think the entertainment value they are getting watching you would be worth it to them. grin

I’m just messin with ya (kinda) I know I would be glued to my window watching. grin

Maybe after Sunday, we just get a bunch of the Packers up there to pound posts. Not like they’ll have anything better to do…… shock whistling .

Then we can sit, drink Coronas, and watch our ifish pros. But what rod will we use?

    Well, Good and bad news.
Good news I am confident the perm dock concept will be a reality.
Bad news is I need a new welder and blades for the jiffy.

Everything went according to plan except for the driver bit breaking again.
Driving the posts actually goes very well, I think I skimmed off the side of a boulder because I couldn’t get this post in as plumb as I would have liked. I was about a 1/2″ off on a 4′ level.
The first set of uprights is in and rock solid after installing the threaded rod and 5″ GRK’s

The finished dock will be 24″ off the water, I set it at that height because that is the same height as the pontoon deck.

    I need a welder.
I wish I knew a guy from Iowa that could weld. whistling

Is it worth looking at a different approach, and letting the punch float, and use the sleeve as a guide?

    HRG,
I was thinking the same thing. The one you suggest is for a 4×4, I’m using 4×6’s.
But I think it has to be that kind of set-up.

Ok so I welded for over 28 years, most of it stainless steel, but this bit part gas me confused?? Most bits are made of hardened steel, welding on it is usually a losing proposition. Am I missing something here???

Look at the pic in the first post. The hardened bit is bolted to the poorly fabricated post driver.

I’m hoping we got it this time.
I was planning on driving some 20’ers this weekend but my lumber Guy couldn’t get them wolmanized for this weekend. Plus it’s going to bottom out at -20.

I’m hoping the post have enough weight that they sink down so I don’t have to hold them down prior to driving them in.

dang, the reinforcements on the bit adapter look exactly like something I described in a pm !
if they charged you any extra for that, tell them I want half for the idea.
still doesnt look like they heated the metal before welding so it would soak the wire weld in a bit deeper.

next time epg, send me a drawing and I will see what I can do.

Dont worry Dutch,I would build two at a time, one completely inside out and the other one the right way, envision a coffee cup with the handle on the inside.
I would send him the goofy one first just to hear his head hit the roof from down here ,the other one would show up the next day.

Iowaboy1 – charged me another buck and a half, and yes you get credit for the design bow

BC89 – So far the bosch has been working pretty decent, but I will keep your offer in mind.

Dutch – I’m hoping I have it completed by spring, I’m figuring if I don’t get it completed with my every other weekend schedule I will take a week off in March and put the hammer down.
