If we want to do away with the switch, then we should make the clock permanent on the fall back switch, NOT the spring forward switch.
Studies are often cited showing an increase of heart attacks and decrease in productivity after the spring forward switch.

Nope, do not agree. Back when I had a desk job, I was most depressed that first Monday after the fall time change, walking out of work into darkness.

DLST year-round is fine by me. HRG

Spring forward time is 1 hour out of sync with the natural cycle of sun rise and sunset.

What does that even mean? ???

During the “fall back” clock schedule, at high noon, when the sun reaches its peak in the sky, it is close to 12:00 p.m.

During the “spring forward” clock schedule, at high noon, when the sun reaches its peak in the sky, it is close to 1:00 p.m.

See? The middle of the day on the clock matches high noon during “fall back” time, but is 1 hour late on “spring forward” time.

“Spring forward” is a disruption to the natural cycle of day and night, and “fall back” is a restoration of the natural cycle of day and night.

This Senate proposal seeks permanent disruption.

Reminds me of all the crazy hours in my working career . When i first started 2nd shift for a week for a week then 3rd for a week then back on 1st for a week did that for many years . Southern swing to the northern swing and then finally to 12 on 12 off . God I’m grateful those days are behind me ! Something beneficial for business, bouncing back and forth ? Different shift every week im sure took years off our lives , the hour forward and back was not a big deal .

Time systems and zones are made up. Solar noon is spread over more than an hour in the central time zone. In western Texas, for example, solar noon today is at 2:07 while in Nashville it’s at 12:55. That’s pretty close without DST but in August it will be ~30 instead of 5 minutes off. Every time zone is like that except one specific longitude within the time zone.

Must be why they call the night shift the “graveyard” shift.

I worked night shift for over 2 years. That’s when I got into sun gazing to try to compensate for the damage.

Those parts of Texas now experiencing high noon close to 2:00 P.m… Are they on Mountain time or Central time?

I suspect they are erroneously on Central time and should switch to Mountain time…

A horrible choice to make it permanent on the spring forward switch. An abomination!

Spring forward time is 1 hour out of sync with the natural cycle of sun rise and sunset.

High noon should be at noon, not 1.

Studies are often cited showing an increase of heart attacks and decrease in productivity after the spring forward switch.

It’s no surprise the government keeps forcing their unhealthy choices upon the populace. It’s getting old. I’m sick of it. I found this forum to vent.

No disputes for Ian, he is just thinking deeper and differently than most of us. Outside the box stuff. I get where he is coming from. Not for or against his thinking. I have not investigated or pondered his rational, and probably will not. But he does have points.

I vote that we make a chain long enough to tie the sun and earth together so that its June 21st year round for everyone.
screw dlst!!!!!!! in the spring I have no problems but in the fall it takes me weeks to get used to it!!

Ya, okay, so someone is going to ask, what will the guy that is hooking the chain to the sun going to say when he gets there??
OWEEEE!, SH!T,SUMBITCH ITS HOT UP HERE!!! and will do so hopping from one foot to the other.

I took a look at what sunset would be for Sept if we went to standard time all year. In the cities sunset would be 6:50 at the start of the month and just before 5 at the end of the month. That amounts to losing a lot of opportunity for outdoor activities after work during some of the nicest weather of the year.

It would also mean some early start times for hunting in the morning. A half hour before sunrise around duck opener would be around 5:40. I just don’t see that as being very popular.

This argument is like saying that when you fly east, say Florida, they should have the same time as where you left so your head doesn’t get screwed up. I used to fly a lot for business, any change of up to a couple of hours was a piece of cake. Changing in the spring and fall is really not a big deal. Go to China, they have one time zone, maybe we should just go to that where everyone is on the same time as long as we are going down that road. DST was lengthened in the 70’s to keep it light longer in the day to save energy, whether it did or not I enjoy the later sunset. Everyone has their reasons, I find it low on my priority list of things I hate about the world. Oh that reminds me, I need to adjust the clock in my Pole Shed, good Lord, another crisis to address!
