Perch Mount

I do my own taxidermy as a hobby. I’m mounting up some Mille Lacs perch I caught. I’m going to have a cut out in the shape of the lake with other perch hand painted in. The small perch are being added in by design in order to give the piece depth and have the school appear to visually be going back 3D-like over the edge of a mud flat. I’m going to call it:

    “Jumbo Perch Off The Flats”

Impressive. I’m looking forward to seeing it completed.
Nothing compares to a Mille Lacs jumbo.

Thanks for the compliments! Trust me, I’m very excited for the finished product.

Here’s a walleye I’m doing as well that will be part of a stringer mount.

Just remember….a man who can pay attention to what a fish looks like in detail…..probably pays attention to the details it takes to catch said fish.

    ;)

So far they look pretty cool, in my opinion. I have two more to add to them already I need to put together yet. I was talking about doing these big, elaborate pieces….but before I get them done I hang the fish on the wall by themselves and really like the impression that leaves of them being suspended in water…at least that’s what dots get connected in my mind….so we’ll see……

You know…I kind of did! Haha

Taxidermy is very voodoo-esque really. Very much Jack White ‘Lazaretto.’

“My veins are blue and connected …Going down to the Lazaretto….Making models of people [Fish] I used to know. Out of coffee and cotton….”

I just really enjoy drinking a bunch of beers and putting together some fish.

I also did this ‘lil guy, an 8-incher that hit an SR-7. Kind of different since everyone thinks “sitting on a bucket ice fishing” when they see perch mounts but only one of the five so far was caught jigging with waxies tipped on a little swedish pimple while ice fishing. Four out of the five were caught on crankbaits, three of those on SR-7’s with the biggest on an SR-5.

I think group fish mounts look much, much better with little fish added to it. Not only do they give the piece depth, but they make the trophy fish look a lot bigger….

….kind of like dating a chick with small hands, if you know what I mean. Hahaha!
